Beauty Review: Beautylishious Monthly Bag

Hey kittens!

As you all well know, I have a passion for fashion and that is my first and foremost love. However, most of the blogs I read and Youtuber’s I watch also incorporate health and beauty into their posts; in many ways, they come hand-in-manicured-hand. Although I have done this a few times, I haven’t concentrated on cosmetics much, so I thought that recieving my November Beautylishious Monthly Bag* would be the perfect oppurtunity!

Monthly beauty subscriptions have been huge recently and really taken off this year – think Glossybox or Luxbox – and give you the chance to sample new beauty and cosmetics products every month. Beautylishious is a monthly Non/Subscription Beauty Bag, sent straight to your doorstep. Each bag will contain 4-5 trial and full sized Beauty and Skincare products; Branded, Organic, Boutique and Homemade and they cost £12.00 a month or £36.00 for 3 months. This was my first plunge into the beauty box world, although it was the 9th edition of Beautylishious.

My first impression of the November Beautylishious Monthly Bag was a good one. I loved the fuschia and leopard print packaging and it’s the first monthly beauty “bag” I know of – most of the others come in boxes. I liked that the bag came with four well sized products and explanitary leaflets to let you know what you’re getting and how to use them (let’s face it, it isn’t always obvious)! I was a bit dubious of what to expect but, to be honest, I was delighted. I mean, it can always be a bit risky when someone else chooses your beauty products… A bit of a “mixed bag”… Geddit?
Inside the bag, I recieved four items –

The Betty Hula Natural Anti-Bacterial Hand Moisturizer was the item I was most excited about. Anti-bacterial moisturisers have been in America for a while now and only in the summer did Vasaline bring one out – I immediately hunted it down as I had been craving one for ages, but it was pretty standard. Vasaline is Vasaline after all! However, having already heard of Bettyhula yet never tried it, I was delighted to find this and also shocked at how perfect this product is for me. It’s 1950s pin-up retro (my fave style), it’s antibacterial (I’m a clean freak) and it smells of champagne (what better flavour?). Not only this, but it was a Full Size product at 50ml and having used it for a month, there is plenty left. I am so grateful to Beautylishious for introducing me to this high quality, unusual and reasonably priced product – at £2.99 I will definitely repurchase.

In contrast, the item I was least excited about was the VO5 Instant Oomph Powder. As y’all kittens know, I have pretty big hair as it is and so it doesn’t really need this extra “oomph” – to be totally fair, I haven’t really used this product much as it isn’t really for me, so I couldn’t comment on whether it works or not. This would definitely be better suited to someone with fine, straighter hair. Also, as the Trial Size is £4.09, I also find it pretty pricey for what it is, especially compared to the better products in the bag which are a lot more inexpensive.

The third item in my beauty bag was another I was super duper happy about, the Sanctuary Spa Fresh Faced Purifying Wash. Recently I have been really debating whether to purchase a cleanser, toner and moisturiser from the Sanctuary range – every time I am in Boots I go and have a look and a tester but haven’t yet been able to justify the price of the products. My mum often recieves Sanctuary toiletries at Christmas and I have always been jealous, so to receive a luxury product in this monthly bag was an absolute delight. I have been using it daily and I absolutely love it – it smells define and really does live up to the claim of freshening my face. For a Trial Size it costs £2.55 and I think that is pretty reasonable – I would love to replace this product with another when it eventually runs out. I am over the moon with it!

The final product I recieved was this MOA The Green Balm. I had never heard of this before and so was intreguied to try it, especially after reading the accompanying leaflet telling me of the “miracle” properties of this little cream. It is apparently an ancient natural remedy which can be used to cure many things – dry lips and skin, rashes, scars and can even be gargled to cure a sore throat! Y’all kittens know I love my natural remedies and claims of historic origins, so I couldn’t wait to use it. Now, at a Trial Size this costs £4.99 and to be totally honest, the tub is absolutely tiny, far smaller than your average lip balm. However, I have kept this in my coat pocket and taken it to work with me every day. I have used it many times a day, every day, for a month and there is barely an indent in the cream. It does moisturise my lips well and I have been very happy with it – I’ve even used it on an allergic reaction I had on my face to some make-up and it did seem to help. Unfortortunately, I cannot report whether gargling it works as I have not worked up the courage to do this yet!

Over all, I have been absolutely thrilled with my November Beauty Bag and would love to try more. The December and January bags have already sold out, so if you would like to join the subscription, make sure to sign up for the February bag here. If you’re interested you can also find Beautylishious on Facebook or send them a Tweet!
