Car Health Checks For Winter Roadtrips

With it being Winter, it’s super important to make sure you check your cars before heading out on any major journeys or road trips. As you guys know, I have recently been spending a lot of time in America and as a result have been getting used to driving on the right side of the wrong (well, the wrong side to us!), using an automatic or the first time and driving big SUV’s which are way bigger than my little yellow Fiat 500. Since driving in snowy Utah, I’ve been making sure to take much better car of my car to ensure it’s safe to drive during Winter, especially concentrating on the tyres. Today I’m sharing some of my top tips.

Car Health Checkups

Although by law we all have to have MOTs every year, it’s also a good idea to get an extra car health check up in Winter to ensure your car is it for purpose. Most local garages will do this for an affordable fee and sometimes even come with a small de-icing kit to help you get started on your own. You could also book in for an annual service with the car dealer you bought your car from if you want to keep these check ups on record.

Check Your Tyres

Make sure you are always checking your tyres to ensure they are fully pumped with no punchtures and are safe for use. It’s also sensible to invest in new ones every couple of years to ensure you’re driving safe. For those of you who live in the UK, and particularly in the big smoke, you can actually buy your tyres on the web on your lunch break and get them fitted after work – definitely a service I would love to see in Manchester.  You can get your tyres online and get them fitted from Iverson Tyres London branch.

De-Ice Your Car Thoroughly

Before you set up off on your road trip – well, any journey of length actually! – please ensure you’re de-icing your car properly. Make sure you can see through the front and back windscreen so that your vision is not impared, that you can open and close windows in case you need to let in air and your tyres aren’t frosted up which could cause skidding.

Remember, when driving in Winter it’s important to make sure you’re looking after your car properly, so that you can make sure you’re protecting yourself properly! No matter how long or short your road trip, make sure you’re taking precautions to keep your driving as safe as possible. Good luck!
