You always start Christmas off by watching Elf, right? How about this year doing something a little different – going to watch it at the musical. This December 2017, ELF: The Musical UK Tour has come to The Lowry (on right until Saturday 14th January) and to see what it was all about, I headed over to the press evening this week to get into the festive feeling.

When I visited The Lowry on Tuesday 28th November, I was lucky enough to attend the Gala Performance. In attendance were lots of local celebrities – Soap stars and real housewives – and all the big wigs of the press industry. Oh, and little old me! We were greeted to a wonderful champagne reception, a red carpet (complete with festive carol singers and a Santa’s slay for photos!) and mince pies to nibble on.

The Lowry always put on a good launch party, an this was no exception. Each of us were also given a program as a memento and, best of all, it was all in aid of a great cause. All the net income from the evening’s performance was given to the charity Care After Combat, a UK based charity providing professional assistance for the well-being of Veterans and their family.

ELF: The Musical is of course a, well, musical take on the modern classic 2003 Christmas film, ELF, starring Will Ferrell. It follows the story of Buddy, an orphan child who mistakenly crawls into Santa’s bag of gifts and is transported back to the North Pole where he grows up as an Elf – until he comes of age and finally finds out he is human. As an adult, Santa encourages Buddy to find his birth father in New York City, and the musical follows the journey of Buddy discovering his true identity in NYC.

Starring West End and ITV ‘Superstar’ winner Ben Forster as Buddy and Liverpudlian chart topper Liz McClarnon starring as his love interest Jolie, ELF: The Musical was an absolute delight to watch. The whole cast were excellent and the musical adaption of the film was a pleasure from start to finish. I laughed the whole way along and in my hysteria was the guest doubled up with laughter on the front row the whole time.

Honestly, I wasn’t sure what to expect but I have only the best things to say about ELF: The Musical at The Lowry. I have since recommended all my friends and family go along to watch as it is the perfect way to get into the festive spirit. If you are able to, head over to The Lowry before Christmas to really get yourself feeling festive this year – it’s perfect viewing for big kids and kids alike!
