If there’s one makeup trend that’s caught the twinkle in my eye this season, it’s glitter lips. Whether it’s a sparky lipgloss, a metallic liquid lipstick or simply overlaying your usual lip look with a spot of cupid’s bow highlighter, it’s all about the statement 3D lips this AW16. With our work’s Christmas party tonight, I’m taking the plunge and aiming to create the boldest glitter lips the best way I possibly can – by using actual cosmetic glitter. With a little help from my gal pals at HQhair, today I’m going to be experimenting to create Festive Glitter Lips with Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics.

Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics (or OCC, for shorter slip of the tongue) are a New York City brand based on creating bold, statement looks not for the faint hearted – which is why I instantly thought of the sassy girl gang at HQhair to aid me in my glitter lips mission. OCC’s cosmetics glitter can be used anywhere on your face – or your body, if you’re into it! – and if your lips aren’t your thang, you can always pop a bit of glitter over your usual highlight to make it truly POP!

I’m going to be using the above metallic gold glitter pigment pressed into my usual smokey cat eye look to elevate my makeup to instant sparkly Christmas status! This finely milled gold with a slight brown undertone  is actually in Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Cosmetic Glitter shade Olive and costs only £11 from HQhair. Underneath it tonight I’ll be using this metallic brown from their Loose Colour Concentrate Eyeshadow Range in shade Brasstacks (also £11). Once applied, OCC’s Brasstacks is a beautiful warm bronze and is also the key shade in HQhair’s Beauty Bauble.

On to the pièces de ré·sis·tance – the glitter lips! For this, I’m going to prep my lips using OCC Lip Tar Primer to create a hydrated base, with enough ‘pull’ to add a bold lip on top of. This is designed to be used with one of OCC’s famous liquid lipsticks, their famous Lip Tar’s but can also be paired with any other liquid lip. I’m going to use my trusty old favourite red from my personal stash and then go in with this stunning orange red glitter in the shade Amber.  Layering your usual look with a new addition to your cosmetics case is the perfect way to upgrade your look to fierce and festive this party season!
