Festive Nights In: Sharing The Moment With Butterkist Popcorn

With Winter nights drawing in and Christmas right around the corner, I’ve started to ditch my heels and rainy, cold nights out in favour of Christmas jumpers and snug Saturday nights in. Although nothing could stop me from going to my weekly ice hockey match for my weekend participation of social activities, instead of heading to the pub with my mates we are now all rushing back to mine to have a big Saturday night in. Staying in is the new going out, dontcha know?

To help us make the most of our Saturday evenings inside, Butterkist kindly supplied us with some delicious snacks and games to help fuel our fun. Butterkist run on the motto ‘get together and share the fun’ which totally stands in line with our Saturday night ethos and one we have been enjoying together.

You probably already know who Butterkist are – they’re the nation’s favourite popcorn brand and every since I can remember my family has bought this brand as take-your-own-cinema-snacks and pop corn to munch on when having a movie night in. They’ve been around for over 100 years – I’m  not quite that old, but I remember them from my childhood all the same!

Popcorn is best known as a cinema snack but I’ve noticed it’s recently become an on-desk favourite amongst my colleagues for being a healthier alternative to crisps or chocolate when you fancy something a little naughty at work. As someone who definitely has a sweet tooth, I now reach for a handful of Butterkist popcorn rather than indulging in a chocolate bar or biscuits, as a serving starts from just 80 calories and now contains up to 60% less saturated fight. Heck, it’s never going to be as good as munching on fruit, but you guys know I like my food and this makes the perfect snack.

Of course, there’s plenty of indulgent varieties to try too, and for a big night in my friends and I have been favouring some of the newest, naughtiest flavours to accompany a bottle of white wine and a good film. Right now, our favourite flavours are Butterkist Choc Mallow (a smooth chocolate and vanilla blend) and Butterkist Salted Caramel (a modern take on the original Toffee flavour) which truly hit out sweet tooth.

As well as wacking on a film for a night in – Christmas films at the ready right now, we are loving classics such as Miracle on 34th Street which reminds me of my last Christmas which was spent visiting the REAL Santa at Macy’s in New York York, and Love Actually for a bit of a festive Rom Com – we are binging on TV box sets through Now TV, a streaming service which contains over 250 box sets and 1,000 movies on demand; so there is a lot to choose from!

When we fancy going offline and switching off for a bit, we love a good game of cards. Honestly, playing cards after dinner at Christmas and on holiday is something my family and I have always done. We don’t ever gamble for money, but sometimes we gamble for snacks or use popcorn as our style of casino chips! We also don’t do poker, but we play 21s and love to stick and twist over a handful of snacks and glass of wine.

And what’s one thing I like to do on a night in all year round? Cuddle Sonny the pug, of course. My sweet angel baby, the perfect Christmas pudding and almost as delicious as any snack. Of course, he can’t share my Butterkist (as much as he would like to!) but he is treated to unlimited love all year round. The best type of treat.
