Guide to Buying a Car: New vs Nearly New vs Used

IMG_6664

Last year I bought my first car on my own; my beautiful Countrypolitan Yellow Fiat 500 Lounge. I was so proud but it was a pretty daunting experience, spending all that money Buying a car can be exciting but it can be one of them most daunting things you can do.

Whether you’re new to the experience or not, knowing what questions to ask (and what answers to want!) can be tricky – especially if you’re looking for something different to suit your changing life. For me, I wanted some cute yet speedy enough to help me drive the 40 mile round journey I make to and from work every day.

Although it feels like there are hundreds of decisions to make, don’t worry, you can break it down step by step into a few simpler decisions.

Know your priorities

One of the first decisions to make is whether you want a new, nearly new or used car. This can be tricky, but luckily there are pros and cons for each which you can set against your priorities – whether it’s running costs, fuel efficiency and emissions, up-front costs or the cost of your insurance.

So first of all, think about what’s important to you. What do you need a car for? If you’re new to driving, you might just want a little car to get about in but if you’re planning on expanding your family then maybe you’ll need something a little more roomy.

There are other big factors too. Have you been saving up and have cash to splash up-front or are you looking to spread the cost? Are you on the look-out for a more environmentally-friendly vehicle? How savvy are you when it comes to repairs?

It’s worth spending a little while thinking about these and noting down what’s most important to you.
