How To Colour Correct Your Skin In 3 Steps

IMG_0156

Even if you don’t have any major skin concerns, uneven colouring is something that can strike most people. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not a huge problem and can sometimes be covered up with foundation alone, but for some people – me included – it tends to heighten during the warmer months and so summer can be a troublesome time for our skin. Today, inspired by a couple of new pieces from Avon – although you could replicate this with other brands – I’m going to be sharing my top 3 tips on How To Colour Correct Your Skin.

1. Hyrdate Your SkinIMG_0157

Uneven skintones can be due to a number of factors, including genetics and external weather conditions (hello red face in summer!), but one of the ways to minimise the effects of these is through proper hydration.

I am a sucker for a good moisturiser and use one religiously morning and night, and at the moment my go-to nighttime cream is the new Anew Clinical Hydra Recovery Overnight Mask by Avon, which is a gel-like consistancy with tiny beads that add hydration to your face overnight. This is particularly good if you’ve spent too long in the sun and you need to combat pink cheeks before the next morning!

2. Prime Your Face Before Makeup

You might think that slapping on some foundation can cover a multitude of skin sins – and hey, sometimes it does if it’s thick enough! – but in summer those go-to high coverage foundations can be too heavy. On sunny days, they can look cakey in daylight and on hot days you might find yourself sweating through your makeup – okay, it’s not cute to think about that but honestly, it’s so bad for your pores and by wearing this type of makeup it can actual worsen uneven skin tone.

For light coverage – or to prime your faec before using a light-medium coverage foundation – go for a colour-correcting primer. This Avon MagiX Face Perfector helps to even out discolourations through it’s brightening formula, and contains SPF 20 to prevent any UVA and UVB rays damaging your skin and reddening it further.

3. Colour Correct Your Face With Opposite Colours

Your colour correction doesn’t have to end when applying your makeup, in fact, that might only be the start. After priming your face, applying your foundation and completing any other makeup steps you might like, there’s one step which I find to be really helpful for colour correction – combating your skintone colours with the opposites.

If you’re suffering with redness, applying red’s opposite colour – green – to even out the colour. No, I don’t mean slapping on a green eyeshadow to your cheeks, but you get the idea. Stick with me here.

Colour correcting pearls have traditionally been a high end product (*cought* Guerlain’s Metorites are the most well known but are WAY too expensive for me to justify), but now more drugstore beauty brands such as Avon are bringing out there own dupes. Having tried both, there is not much in it for me, and so I would much rather have the tenner alternative Avon Colour Correcting Pearls to sweep over my face with a big fluff kabuki brush once completing my makeup, than spend four times the amount on it’s high end dupe.
