I Bought My First Home

I bought a house. Yep, a real life house. For me, on my own. Only went and gone and bought a property by myself, for myself. Say hello to Miss Homeowner, owner of Pug Palace in South Manchester.

I’m so delighted to begin sharing the process of making a house a home with you guys. I actually completed on the house at the start of Summer but I wanted to share the news with my friends and family first. It’s been a lovely little secret, but now it’s time to share.

Buying a house was not a short of easy process, it was long and honestly kinda stressful, especially trying to juggle solicitors and mortgages and all those grown up things around a pretty demanding 12 hour day type job. It’s especially stressful when you’ve never done it before with pretty much no guidance and you’re committing to a pretty much a lifelong loan. Previously, the most money I’d ever spent was on buying my car – but now that feels insignificant in comparison, which is kinda sickening in itself. Imagine saving your money hard for your whole working life and then just transferring that money to a solicitor you’ve never even met and never seeing it again… Ew.

That being said, I’m proud of myself for doing it. It’s been the end goal for me pretty much since I moved home to Manchester from uni and I’ve worked damn hard for it. I’ve not scrimped on anything and I’ve enjoyed myself over the past few years, but buying a home was always top of my wishlist and I’ve finally done it.

I get asked a lot by my friends how I’ve managed to buy my own home at 26, and there really is no secret. It’s just work hard, save, and always keep the end goal in mind.  I’ve had no handouts, no inheritance, no deposit paid for me and no money from my family to go towards this. Heck, I don’t even have a partner. And that’s not to sniff at an couples buying together, but you have to remember they pay half each… This girls gone and done it; been a first time buyer on her own.

So, the hard bit is over. I’ve bought the house. I’ve had the major works done -we’re talking kitchen, flooring and my family and I spending many months of weekends painting, cleaning and putting things together. Now it’s time for the fun bit, the making a house a home…

I’m so excited to bring this journey to you now and to start making a house a home. It’s the best part, especially as I am getting it ready right in time for Christmas! I can’t wait to decorate it with beautiful furniture. I’m talking copper and brass accessories, bar tables and beautiful lounge chairs. I’ve been planning this for years and now I can’t wait to make all my interior décor dreams come true. It’ll be a long process, again, (I’m not made of money!) but over the past 6 months I’ve been gathering some statement pieces which are already helping to shape my little home into exactly how I want it.

Buying a house was not the end of the road, it’s the start of the journey – and you guys are coming on it with me. So, strap yourself in and grab some sweets for the road, it’s going to be a long ride.
