Online Shopping Tips For Saving Money

Me: guilty of carrying a shopping bag or two!

We all love a bit of retail therapy. Whether you’re strolling around the shops or browsing on your phone, it can be hard to resist a spot of window shopping and I am guilty for creating wishlists as long as my arm ready for payday! However, if there’s something you really need – or really want! – I’ve got some top Online Shopping Tips For Saving Money that can help you save a penny or two. And hey, what’s better than grabbing a bargain?

Wait For The Sale

This one might seem obvious, but more often than not it can be super easy to get sucked into something you really want to buy there and then… Only for it to enter a sale six weeks later and be selling at half the price! I’ve had this happen more than once on clothes, some of which I’ve only worn once before they’ve gone into sale, and it doesn’t half hurt knowing you could have saved some pennies. Aside from Boxing Day Sales, I tend to find End of Season Summer sales great for a bargain, which usually happen at the end of August before new season fashion trends start in September. So keep your eyes peeled right around now for bargains!

Use Discount Coupons

I never purchase anything online now without looking for a discount coupon. My rule of thumb is; if there is a ‘promo code’ or ‘discount code’ box at the checkout basket, then chances are there’s gotta be a coupon out there. Otherwise, why would they have that facility at all? Most online shopping sites have it so it’s worth taking your time trying to find one. Of course, you could do all the hard work yourself but I personally find it so much easier to use a discount coupon directory. My personal favourite site to use when finding online shopping discounts is Groupon Coupons. Groupon are already the leader in offering discounts on restaurants, days out and instore shops – so it only makes sense to me to trust them for online shopping too. In fact, they offer over 70,000 free coupons for over 9,000 stores, from big name stores such as Sephora, to more niche market place ones that you might not have considered looking for a discount coupon for before, like Aliexpress. From clothes shops, to pet supplies, to travel, they have everything covered that I would ever need to use online shopping for, so I always make sure to check them out before making a purchase.

List By Price

My persona favourite Online Shopping Tips For Saving Money is by catagorising items online by price. Most sites tend to automatically list items by ‘relevancy’ (what does that even mean?) or ‘most recent’. Most Recent is fine if you’re after something brand spanking new, but you won’t be able to grab a bargain that way. List items Low – High to show the cheapest first so you don’t waste your time ploughing through items out of your price range.

Search For Items On Multiple Sites

If you see an item on one website, chances are other shops are selling them too. Online shopping stock is rarely exclusive – and if it is, they will probably make a big deal out of as a selling point so you’ll know – so it is worth quite literally shopping around. Just as you might visit a number of shops in a shopping mall before going in for the splurge, do the same online. There are some price comparison websites that you can use but I have limited success with these as often the items are called slightly different names on each site. Instead, I like to search for similar phrases on similar websites to get an idea of which website is selling it at the best price.

Get Cash Back

A big plus point for me when doing online shopping is that I get to claim cash back. It’s not a new thing and there are tons of websites out there for you to try (mostly its trial and error until you find your favourite), but by clicking through an affiliate link on a cash back website you will be able to earn back a few quid for each purchase. The cash back rates are different for each cash back site and selling site, so again, worth shopping around, but they work by offering you a percentage of the total purchase price of your basket when clicking through a site. It might not seem like a huge reward but do all your online shopping through this means and it soon adds up, enough to get yourself an online shopping haul for free!
