Outfit of the Day – “Monochrome stripes, bowler hat & studs”

Hey kittens!

A couple of days ago I uploaded this Outfit of the Day video to Youtube –“Monochrome stripes, bowler hat & studs and I thought it was about time I wrote I blog post on it!

This is a pretty new look for me but I have started to love. I’ve really been experimenting with my looks recently and I thought that after recieving this beautiful Cheska Stripe Button Shirt  from ProdigyRED.com would be the perfect oppurtunity to take this even further! The shirt is a sheer chiffon shirt with all over stripes, patch pocket and button through fastening at front and is 100% Polyester. I love it! What originally drew me to this shirt is the face that it was featured in The Independent newspaper style section – Lord only knows I love a good reccomendation ;)

I got the shirt in one size larger so it would have a slightly oversized look and it fulfilled my expectations for a great fitting shirt. The stripes are actually navy blue although could pass for black in certain lights. If you’re a loyal subscriber to my Blog and Youtube, you will know that I’ve been bagging on all summer about monochrome stripes being on trend and whilst I firstly tried out the look in my Peplum Monochrome Stripes Video and Blog Post I was still quite hesitant. However, this shirt has given me an easy and wearable way to embrace stripes, whilst remaining comfortable and confident in my own style (ya’ll know I love a good smart-casual shirt!). I further taylored this shirt to fit my personal look by adding these cute but punky collar tips I hunted out on ebay – a great gold colour accent that I followed up through the gold detail on my Lenca bow shoes from MissPap.co.uk and my patent faux leather bag from Primark.

I really feel the monochrome and stripe look in this outfit is influenced by the “Rude Boy” ska era, as epitmoised by the vintage bowler hat and blazer. The Christa Stud Blazer also ties in with the gold accent theme as has gold studs on the shoulders, which helps to modernise and toughen up this late 1970s fashion. And, whilst this look could be considered quite adrogenyous, one can’t forget a slick of red lipstick to feminise the look!
