Dressing my Boyfriend: Styling Menswear for Spring Summer 2017

Say hello to my handsome man. If you follow me on Instagram you will have probably seen pictures of Jonathan and I together on our holidays, at the ice hockey together or simply out for a meal or drinks at the weekend – those are our favourite hobbies after all! Aside from the obvious, we also have a joint love for something that causes both ups and downs in our relationship; fashion.

Before we met, we both had our own interest in fashion and street style that has at times helped us to both unite – and sometimes be pushed apart – as we are both quite opinionated on our personal style. I have to admit that I am a little fussy about what Jonathan wears at times; he is gorgeous but left to his own devices, Jonathan’s choices in T-Shirts and Sports jackets can be questionable at best. However as we have both grown to embrace each other’s interests a little more, I’ve come to realise that when advising him on what to wear is best served as a collaborative effort. Heck, he’s never gonna be someone who wears a shirt and boat shoes on a night out, and so when thinking about helping him to dress for Spring Summer 2017, I’m thinking about things he can be comfortable in wearing that make us both happy. Happy girlfriend = happy boyfriend, right?

One thing we actually do a lot is text each other links to clothing items we like and so in an effort to finding that happy medium, I’ve popped together my must have items for Styling Menswear for Spring Summer 2017.

Men’s Shoes for SS17

How many of you feel me when I saw shoes are the first thing I look at in a man? It’s so true – a pair of good shoes can say a lot about a guy and footwear is so important in demonstrating a men’s style; whether it’s a pair of boat shoes, trainers (Jonathan’s favourites!) or – if I can stomach to say it – sliders(!), but I do know a lot of men have trouble finding the right pair of Wide Fitting shoes. For SS17 I’d like to see Jonathan wearing a nice pair of deck shoes and absolutely no sliders! The smarter the better.

Floral Patterns

Florals for spring? Groundbreaking! (Kudos to those who got the Devil Wears Prada refernece there). But seriously, floral patterns aren’t unusual for the sunnier seasons but instead of us ladies flying the flag for flowers, I really like how a bold floral print looks on men. Toughen it up with a chunky watch and a smart blazer and your holiday shirts look instantly more suave.

Tan Accesories

Jonathan is a little light on accessories and tends to pop his wallet and phone in his pocket and go, but I do think accessories really help to make or break a look with minimal effort. In Autumn and Winter, black and silver accents work well for menswear but as the sun starts to come out a little more I tend to opt for warmer tones. Tan coloured watches, belts and shoes help to add a little warmth to menswear for SS17 and take an outfit from average to Spring-ready in just a second. Plus, ain’t nothing wrong with a manbag!
