Summer Holiday Series: Holiday Beauty Essentials

Hey kittens! Recently I’ve been posting the first few of my Holiday series blog posts, about the items we might forget to take on holiday. I’m always one for posting about fashion and what I’d recommend you kitty cats to wear on holiday, but packing for my own trip to Rome got me thinking about what other bits I should take. I mean, what sort of makeup is holiday appropriate?

Just as I was pondering life’s questions (e.g. what foundation won’t run off my face in the heat? What lipstick won’t make me look TOO washed out?), the lovely people at The Hut Group asked me to write a guest blog post for them. Click here to read it in their magazine or read below to find out how I prepare, beauty wise, for my trips away from home…

The most important thing I do in preparation for my holidays is pop some vitamins. I find vitamin suppliments so important in helping to boost your immune system for your weeks away from home – no one wants to get ill when they’re meant to be enjoying themselves! As a vegetarian, I try and take multi-vitamin suppliments daily, but in the run up to my holidays, I like to up the game a little. These True Woman Hair, Skin & Nails from My Vitamins are perfect for enhancing your natural assets, especially for when you want them to look their best. Not only do these help to boost a healthy appearance, but True Woman Hair, Skin & Nails also contains mixed Carotenoids, which has been known to help enhance tanned skin. Handy, eh?

While we’re on the topic of hair, my big curly ‘fro can be a right nightmare when faced with humidity, so on a summer holiday it can often be at it’s worst. Uh oh! Whilst vitamins might help it’s condition, a windy beach and hot spells do nothing for it’s frizz status, so I often resort to tying it up. This Sleep In Rollers Bun Ring from HQ Hair is a quick little gadget for keeping my curls looking tidy. Popping my hair into this helps to create a stylish up-do, ideal for keeping my untameable hair out of my face.

In terms of makeup, I like to keep things simple when I’m away (who wants to spend hours putting on your face when it’s just gonna melt off anyway?) so minimal makeup is a must. A good way to pack light is by using a multifunctional product, and this Benefit Chachatint from Look Fantastic is a fab example. It’s is perfect for popping onto the cheeks and lips for a gentle holiday glow, especially handy if you’re pale and need an extra boost in the colour department like I do!

And, in order to achieve a beautifully natural-looking face on holiday, you need the right base! Aimee’s Morning Dew is my moisturiser of choice when travelling away from home. Not only does it moisturise the skin – especially important to hydrate your face when in a hot climate – but it has a mattifinyg effect, too. This is obviously especially important when on your travels; who wants to end up with a shiny forehead in pictures?

Finally, because I like to keep my makeup looking natural, I’ll go all out in another area – my nails! Whether it’s hot or cold, nail polish will stay put and so I love taking the time on nail art before I go away. This Nails Inc Bling It On Rebel Collection from Beauty Expert is an easy kit for doing some DIY nail art, with everything you need to bling up your nails for a glittery summery look that will stay put in the heat!
