Y Fabrica Mexican Restaurant Didsbury Manchester Review

Y Fabrica Mexican Restaurant Didsbury Manchester ReviewRight in the heart of trendy Didsbury, there’s a brand new restaurant. Replacing the much-loved Mud Crab (a handmade burger restaurant) is a new Mexican that everyone is talking about. Recently, Mexican food has been tingling my tastebuds and so I jumped at the chance to head down to give it a try. Say hello to my Y Fabrica Mexican Restaurant Didsbury Manchester Review.

The restaurant itself is centrally located in Didsbury, so super easy to find, and looks absolutely stunning. It’s decor is a combination of surf shack vibes from Santa Monica and injections of fabric and art inspired by Yucatan, Mexico, Y Fabrica looks and feels like a breath of fresh air. To start, I chose to have a Frozen Margarita – it was absolutely delicious and lasted me my whole meal (that’s not to say that I would have had a hard time squeezing a couple more in!). In fact, Y Fabrica have a cocktail offer that includes 2 cocktails for £10 before 7pm, which is good enough of a challenge for me!

For food, Y Fabrica also did not disappoint. They pride themselves on creating dishes that are informal Californian style, all made in house, all fresh and prepared with care. We were served by the absolutely lovely Dean who advised us on portion sizes and what to choose. My guest and I treated the dishes as almost ‘tapas style’ and chose a couple to share between us. Oh, and because it was a cheat day we had to order a side of fries (duh!) which came in such a huge portion that we barely touched the sides – but they were deliciously crisp and salty.

I have to admit that everything we tried was absolutely divine – I expected it to be good but honestly, it was incredible and my friend and I have recommended it to everyone we know since! We were blown away with how carefully each dish was prepared, especially our favourite we shared, the ‘Mexican Pizza’ (costing £6). I’d never had one before, so in case you were curious like me, this was a large folded chargrilled tortilla filled with delights such as black beans, mozzarella, crema and avocado. I’m still thinking about it now, a few weeks on, and I am already making excuses to go back and have it again…

To go alongside the Mexican Pizza, we shared Roasted Poblano and Sweet Potato Tacos (£5 for two tacos)and Jalapeno Poppers (£4 for a portion). The Tacos were pretty similar to the Mexican Pizza (I think we probably choose things too similar by accident, as they both contained black beans and cream cheese), however still great. The Jalapeno Poppers were a very generous serving size too – we had to leave a couple – and just as delicious as the rest, with spicy Jalapenos covered in lappings of cream cheese, battered and served with salsa verde.

Although we most certainly shouldn’t have had any room for pudding, we powered through (such a hard life!) as we had been eying up the desserts from other diners. We saw others have cookie ice cream sandwiches and sweet burritos, but unfortunately my friend had a nut allergy and so our choices were limited. (I’m gonna leave her at home next time so I can safely indulge!). Nevertheless we had a portion of Churros with traditional chocolate sauce to share £4), and it was the perfect end to a wonderful night.

Y Fabrica has just become one of my favourite local restaurants, ever. The staff were beyond friendly, the food was fresh and clearly handmade, and there was a wide range of drinks. I will be returning to try out more cocktails, and maybe even sample their breakfast menu, which looks just as beautiful as our meal.
