Embracing The Curly Hair Trend This Christmas

You will have only have had to see one picture of me to know I have super curly hair. It naturally falls into pretty tight ringlets and so in general is pretty easy to control, weather and product dependant! I have never felt the need to straighten my hair – never have and I suspect never will – as aside from the time and effort it takes to straighten it, plus the damage it does to your hair, it really never truly looks like ‘me’ when my hair isn’t curly. My curls make me look like me, if that makes sense?

I have written many curly hair care blog posts over the years documenting the best products I have found for curly hair and how I style my locks. However, there can be plenty of ways to style your hair and enjoy your curls (if they’re natural), or if your hair is naturally straight, plenty of ways to bring bounce and fun to your hair this season. Curly hair is being seen all over celebrities and red carpets this Winter, also in fashion and beauty campaigns for holiday looks and Christmas party outfit ideas!

Why the curly trend right now? Well, every trend makes its comeback. We have had a solid decade in the 2000’s of loving the sleek slick well oiled poker straight hair trend, that it’s time to change things up. Curls bring volume to your hair, which usually enhances your face and can help you highlight certain features such as your eyes or cheekbones. Sure, straight hair will always be fashionable and mostly looks elegant and chic, but for some straight hair may not be as flattering, especially on ladies with longer faces. Curly hair specifically suits almost all face shapes, because we are not altering the length but rather the style. However if you’re looking to find the right style for you, take a look at what is likely to suit you best…

So, what are the ways to achieve the curl? Get creative, there are plenty of ways to achieve this bubbly look and plenty of YouTube tutorials to help you. An automatic hair curler is a brilliant tool to achieve that beautiful look, effortlessly. Spritz with some hair spray and you’re good to go to any social event. Add some chic dolly slides or glitter for a more festive feel. You can achieve loose curls easily by letting your hair dry in plaits, this is a good way to achieve a lovely chic crimped look, but for more natural curls, twizzle your hair in pigtails around your finger and pin it up overnight and by the time morning arrives, you will have loose, happy curls that should last the day. To really maximise your curls, you will want to look at buying some kind of salt spray. A couple of sprays to your mid-lengths and ends will give your hair texture and hold your curls in place, it’s the perfect way to recreate your summer beach look during these bitter winter months!

With Christmas party season well upon us, it’s the perfect opportunity to either get creative with your hair or start to embrace naturally curly hair, an effortless look for glam or a more natural day to day look, the curls are waiting!
