News: Cruelty Free EU!

Hey kittens!

BREAKING NEWS! Coming to you within an HOUR of announcement…
Today I bring fabulous news for all kitten kind – the EU is finally set to ban all animal testing as of 11th March this year. And it’s been a long time coming!
When I first set up my blog and Youtube channel in the summer, one of my first ever videos was about my disappointment of Urban Decay regressing to animal testing

I have since championed cruelty-free and organic make-up brands through make-up reviews on my blog – you can check some out here and here, including my review of local brand Balmi and 100% natural make-up company Lily Lolo.

As a passionate animal lover, vegetarian and humanitarian, I have forever been disgusted that any cosmetics company be allowed to test on animals or use ingredients tested on animals. Although I can understand the debate around animal testing for medical purposes, it is undeniably unnecessary that any company feel they are justified to test make-up on animals. It’s just wrong!
Although many companies such as Cruelty Free International and The Body Shop have been campaigning for the ban on animal testing for over 20 years (the same amount of time I’ve been alive!), the day has finally come – and that day will be the 11th March 2013.
This means that as of March, any new cosmetics that have been tested on animals – not just in the EU, but anywhere in the world – will be banned from being sold in Europe. This doesn’t just mean make-up, it also includes all toiletries, from shampoo to toothpaste. Nothing with a cruelty status will be sold – nope, nothing, nada! Success!
Cruelty Free International Chief Executive, Michelle Thew said: “This is truly an historic event and the culmination of over 20 years of campaigning.  Now we will apply our determination and vision on a global stage to ensure that the rest of the world follows this lead.
So kittens, I cannot tell you of my relief. This is a purrrfect result for both the cosmetics and vegan/vegetarian communities and it has taken away any guilt that I may have felt when purchasing cosmetics in the past – even though I have always consciously made an effort to buy only vegan toiletries, it has always been hard to know 100% that products are totally cruelty free… But not for long now!
What a purrrfect result!
