RMK Summer 2015 Collection: The New Lip

Luxury Japanese cosmetics company, RMK, is not often mentioned in the UK. In fact, despite having a large cult following, it’s presence is still pretty limited and is available only to buy exclusively in Selfridges in Manchester Exchange, Birmingham Bullring and London Oxford Street. My first experience of the brand was in December, when I was invited along to try out their AW14 collection. Impressed, I popped back along this week to see what their Spring Summer 2015 collections had to offer.

RMK’s Spring Summer 2015 collections include Vintage Sweets (think lots of stripy compacts, pastels and glitter) and The New Lip. On this visit, my RMK beautician introduced me to specifically The New Lip: a collection of 25 new – you guessed it – lipsticks, three new lipliners, a pale blusher, a light bronzer and three new bright nail polish colours. As the name not so subtly suggests, this look is all about the lips!

The new lipsticks boast an extraordinarily high Argon Oil ingredient, a much higher percentage of moisturiser included in the formula than most lipsticks on the market. This results in a highly pigmented colour, yet an almost balm-like consistency. The glossy finish of the applied product reflects this, which is a lovely touch for lighter make-up looks on sunny days (which we are finally experiencing here in Manchester!). The colours range from nude, to orange, to coral pink to a deep red – the colour I opted to try.

After cleansing my face with the Rose Balm Cleanser (seriously, try it, it’s a wonderfully gentle and lightly scented make-up remover), my RMK make-up artist popped on a light base make-up and dusted my eyes with an almost sheer smoky eye. Again, it’s all about the lips for RMK this summer, so the main focus was on the lipstick I chose. I went for the colour which I would be most likely to buy and wear, which was the RMK Irresistible Bright Lips in shade 08 Deep Red, a lovely blue-toned red. Finishing off the look, my lips were lined in the RMK Irresistable Lip Liner in shade 04 Red;  a slightly lighter colour, yet blended well with the lipstick and definitely made the shape of my lips pop!

So, what do you think of the finished look? It’s certainly light and summery, with a pop of colour on the lips. Personally, I don’t think this is a go-to look for me, but I could certainly see myself wearing the RMK Summer 2015 Collection Irresistible Lips lipstick with my usual winged eyeliner and power-brow looks. At £19.50, the staying power of this lipstick isn’t great, but the colours are lovely and would compliment almost any Summer 2015 make-up look. If you’re unsure, pop in to Selfridges Exchange Square, Manchester, and Lucy will let you have a try – oh, and say I say hi!
