RUSH Hair Salon, Deansgate Manchester

I have a confession to make: I’ve only ever been to the same hairdresser my whole life. When I was a toddler my Momma took me to my lovely local hairdresser and I’ve gone back every six months since; she’s fabulous, a wonderful hairdresser and a lifelong friend. More importantly, she ‘gets’ my hair. As a gal with very curly locks, it’s always scared me to take the plunge to challenge anyone else to tame my tresses, even though as a Beauty Blogger I am regularly declining offers to try out hair salons. That is, until I was invited along to try out RUSH Hair Salon, Deansgate Manchester.

Located right in the centre of  Manchester City Centre on the busy main road of Deansgate (the end closest to Harvey Nichols and Selfridges, which is a fab location), I took a deep breath and made my appointment. As a L’Oreal salon, I trusted the expertise even though I did check several times they wouldn’t be afraid of curly hair. Upon entering, I was offered a drink (I firstly opted for tea) before I had a consultation with Hair Stylist, Jess.

Jess was bright and bubbly and totally embraced my curls. I was pretty honest with her and said I was nervous to put my hair in the hands of anyone else but she put me right at ease, telling me she ‘loved’ curly hair(!) and another stylist even popped over to agree. She listened to what I wanted; just a trim, nothing too ‘out there’, something to just give my curls a bit more bounce back and put my layers back in.

img_1904 After a relaxing wash using the luxurious curl range by the haircare product elite, Kerastase, Jess got to work. I eyed up her scissors the whole time but she totally listened to me and although advised, was sure not to make me feel uncomfortable. She was even asking questions about personal preference, such as the products I use, and how I style my curls, because, as she said ‘everyone looks after their curls differently’. She took my advise on my ‘twist’ing’ technique to style and when I said I usually let it air dry she used a natural drying machine instead of risking frizz with a blow dry. Yes! A hairstylist who understands!

By this point I had finished my cup of tea and as offered another drink. Jess suggested wine… Erm, yes please! What a treat. I’ve never been offered a glass of wine at a salon before and it arrived with some beautiful Lindt chocolate treats and a choice of magazines too. I felt totally spoilt, and the RUSH team kept offered top ups too (although it was only lunch time, I took my time with my one big glass!).

And when it was all dry… Voila! The finished result! Exactly what I had asked for – my usual style but with a lot more volume due to added layers. A trim to refresh my curls and styled exactly how I wished. RUSH have cured my fear of hairdressers and I would totally recommend them to anyone looking for a city centre cut; a pamper and glass of wine in between a spot of lunchtime shopping was exactly what the doctor ordered.
