Simple Swaps To Embrace Summer Décor In Your Home

A new season provides a perfect excuse to freshen up and revamp your interiors. During the summer, when it’s warm and bright, many of us like to embrace seasonal design trends and spruce up our homes. If you’re looking for easy ways to add summer vibes without breaking the bank, here are some simple swaps you can make today.

Changing colours

Summer is a brilliant season for those who love to experiment with different trends and try new things. The beauty of changing the colourway in your home for summer is that trends cater to every taste and space. While crisp neutrals never go out of fashion for chic, summer-ready interiors, the warmer months also give us license to have fun with colour. As temperatures rise, swap cosy, rich and decadent shades for cool or vivid tones. Opt for brights, add prints and patterns, or combine muted tones with pops of vibrant colour to enjoy the best of both worlds. Think about the size of the room and the ambience you want to create when selecting colours. Light shades are calming and they open up rooms and help to create the illusion of more space. Bright colours create energetic, social spaces but they can make rooms look smaller and more cramped.

Swapping to lightweight fabrics

During the winter months, many of us want to create cosy, toasty rooms that make us feel as though we’re hibernating in our homes. As it gets warmer, we gravitate towards light and airy, open spaces and we embrace feeling cool. To get your home ready for summer, swap to lightweight fabrics. Replace velvet, wool and faux fur cushions and rugs with linen and cotton cushion covers and jute or bamboo floor coverings. Swap heavy, dark curtains and blackout blinds for floral, striped or neutral Roman blinds to let more light in and replace sumptuous throws and warm blankets with cotton or linen-mix waffle blankets. Stick to natural materials when choosing new bedding.

Bringing the outside in

When it’s cold, wet and miserable outside, most of us like to block out the outdoors and get cosy. We gather around fireplaces and we tend to look inwards rather than towards doors and windows. As it gets lighter and brighter, bring the outside in. Open curtains and blinds to maximise natural light, angle furniture towards windows and doors and use flowers and plants to add vibrancy and freshness. If you’re considering making more dramatic changes to your home to embrace al fresco living, you could explore options like fitting patio doors, adding a lantern light in your kitchen or living room or creating a covered patio or terrace in the garden.

Summer is here, and many of us will be making adjustments to our homes to embrace warmer weather and longer, brighter days. If you’re keen to revamp your home for summer, but you don’t want to spend a fortune, there are some very simple ways to update your décor. Experiment with different colours, including fresh, clean neutrals and playful brights, swap to lightweight, cool fabrics and bring the outside in.
