Tips for a Work-Life Balance: Full-Time Worker and Part-Time Blogger

As you guys know, not only do I run my blog and YouTube channel, but I also work full time in Beauty Marketing. It’s a pretty hectic job (well, very hectic!), with it not being unusual to work 12 hour days, be on emails in the evening and weekends, and so far this year it’s already taken me to live in Utah! As such, I sometimes struggle to find time for myself – and to create content for LilyKitten.com – and so today I’m sharing my top tips for a work life balance for a full time worker and part time blogger.

Create a timetable

I don’t mean literally create a timetable (although for some people that might help!) but for me, I schedule in some time in my head every Sunday to dedicate to blogging. Although I admit I don’t stick to blogging every Sunday, I do try most Sundays to work on something to do with my blog. Whether it be taking photos, editing a YouTube video or simply getting out my laptop to type away at a blog article, I like to know my Sunday afternoons are blogging times.

Keep it fun

For me, blogging is a hobby and therefore it should always be fun! I know that whenever it stops becoming fun, I’ll give it up, but six years later here I am, still enjoying it, and still finding space in my spare time to keep LilyKitten.com going. If it wasn’t fun, I wouldn’t spend my previous spare time doing it. Simples.

Feel free to say ‘no thank you’

For me, there as a period of time a year or two into my blogging ‘career’ where I started to struggling with over-committing myself to things. At first, I felt bad about saying ‘no thank you’ to events or products and therefore ended up tying myself up in circles trying to reviews this and visit here and photography that. Now, as time has gone on and I’ve matured and grown in my work career, I’ve discovered that it really is okay to politely decline invites that you aren’t able to fulfill. Much better to do that than to stress yourself out with worrying about chaser emails for that mascara someone sent you a month ago.

Make time for yourself

Most importantly: make time for yourself. Make sure you find time to nourish your mind, body and soul when you finish working. It can be so easy to get swept up in a blogosphere of likes, comments and shares, but at the end of the day – is it really worth it if you don’t enjoy it? If you’re happy, everything else will come naturally. Trust me.
