Top 5 Tips for Getting a Glow

IMG_7688

As summer approaches, there is more focus on your skin looking great and less focus on matte makeup; hence my dewy foundation favourites that include the Pixi H2O SkintiBut ‘glowing’ isn’t just about what you put on your skin, it’s about what you put inside your body and the tools that you can use for a little extra help. If you’re looking to get a little shine this Spring, here are my Top 5 Tips for Getting a Glow.

1. Drink water

Top 5 Tips for Getting a Glow

A basic tip, but I can’t promote drinking water enough. Not only does it help to keep you hydrated, but it helps to flush out toxins from inside your body and keep your insides all lovely. Use this tip to get your glow from your inside out – honestly, drink 8 cups of water a day like me and your skin will be thanking you for it.

2. Look after your smile

It might sound cheesy, but the most beautiful thing you can wear is your smile! No matter what make-up you decide to pop on, your smile is what people will notice first and adds an instant glow to any look. Teeth whitening is optional, but I personally like to look after mine for that very reason; I want people to remember my smile and brightening it helps to give me a glow. I don’t like to use anything too harsh and at the moment I am loving CocoWhite Coconut Oil – a natural solution to oral hygiene which helps to lighten the shades of your teeth using organic products. Plus, they’ve flavoured the taste with peppermint to help freshen your mouth up in the morning. Delightful.

3. Keep Hydrated

Wearing makeup is a personal preference and although I often go out at the weekends with a bare face, I do have some every day products that really help me to highlight my skin and bring out the glow. Facial mists are some of my top items for achieving a dewy (not oily!) face base which makes for a flawless canvas. I love finishing off my makeup with a spritz of a rosewater setting spray to keep my skin hydrated, I particularly love the Jurlique Rosewater Spray from Lookfantastic that helps to reduce the ‘cakey’ look and add some moisture back into my complexion.

4. Get the right selfie equipment

Top 5 Tips for Getting a Glow

Getting a glow is all well and good, but what’s the point without a selfie to capture it? My top tip for getting the best Instagram pic right now is this incredible Lumee case. It has the best selfie light built in, meaning your face gets the glow on your front facing camera without even having to try! It reminds me of an Old Hollywood makeup mirror and I get so many questions on where it’s from whenever I’m out and about. It’s also crucial to keep your phone charged and my Echo lightning cable is handy for that, especially as its 2 metres so is long enough to still get that high angle selfie when you’re plugged in.

5. Have good thoughts

And finally, let’s finish with one of my favourite quotes from Rhoad Dahl. This guy taught me a lot about life as a kid, and this extract from The Twits still resonates with me today:

“If a person has ugly thoughts, it begins to show on the face. And when that person has ugly thoughts every day, every week, every year, the face gets uglier and uglier until you can hardly bear to look at it.

A person who has good thoughts cannot ever be ugly. You can have a wonky nose and a crooked mouth and a double chin and stick-out teeth, but if you have good thoughts it will shine out of your face like sunbeams and you will always look lovely.”
