Who “Nose” How To Manage Allergies?

When it comes to fighting fit in life, one of the most frustrating and even, agonising aspects of being unhealthy is an allergy. Whether it’s a food allergy, or you find that you have minimal asthma symptoms after a workout routine, figuring out ways to keep those little allergies under control is a major part of ensuring that you are a little bit happier. But when it comes to managing these things, are there any specific hacks, or is it about the tried and tested methods?

Minimising Your Allergy Triggers

When we look at our home, this has to be the first port of call for minimising triggers. When we work in an office environment, or we’re outside a lot, we don’t have any control over the air, but when we start to have a look at the property, this is how we can make the most of the space. This is especially true when it comes to air conditioning devices that have HEPA filters. You could always get in contact with an air conditioning service to swap the filters, but also, think about cleaning any air conditioning or devices that blow air around the home. Because if there’s a lot of allergens around your house, you are continually disrupting them every time a fan or air conditioner goes on. As well as this, make sure you are keeping your house as clean as possible.

Controlling Your Breathing

Allergies, especially ones like asthma, can arise from a lack of being able to take in as much oxygen as you’d like. Controlling your breathing, or at the very least, taking in more oxygen could give you a better chance of breathing easier. There are various methods out there that can help you but at the very outset, diaphragmatic breathing is crucial. A lot of people breathe shallowly, so they don’t take in as much air. By learning to breathe through our diaphragm, we can take in more air through the chest, and down even further. As well as this, being able to breathe properly can help your immune system in so many different ways.

The Right Supplements

There is some evidence that supplements can help allergies, but it depends on the allergy you suffer from. When it comes to nasal congestion, there have been studies on butterbur and red ginseng, that have shown to show significant improvement in nasal obstruction. But if you have an allergy to something like pollen, antihistamines work effectively. It’s important to take the right ones. But also, if you would rather stay away from medication, there are natural remedies like nettle tea that can help. There’s also some evidence to suggest that local honey can help in terms of seasonal allergies.

And if you feel you’ve been suffering from an allergy for some time, it’s always worth going to see a health professional. They can always point you in the right direction, but also if you are considering the underlying cause of an allergy, you may want to look at your gut bacteria. Gut bacteria have been studied a lot recently, and adding a probiotic into your diet could very well help with allergies.
