2014 A Year in Outfits

Happy New Year, Kittens! As part of a yearly blog tradition, I am once again starting the first day of the new year by recapping my favourite Outfit of the Day posts of the year before. For me, it’s a good way to see how I’ve grown as a person through my personal style (after all – how you dress is how your personality is shown to those who don’t know you yet), so join me as I pick my fashion highlights of 2014.

January

In January I photographed one of my favourite outfit sets of the year – start as you mean to go on, and all that. This outfit of the day included my Zara faux fur coat that was my main present for Christmas 2013, and included photos from Picadilly Gardens in Manchester. I just loved it; showing off Manchester is one of my favourite things to cover on my blog, and I loved you lot guessing where I was!
February

For February it was hard to choose one favourite outfit – it was a toss up between my Double Dogtooth outfit shot in Manchester’s Northern Quarter, and this Wednesday Adam’s-esque look that appealled to my love of all things gothic yet preppy. Although one of these looks is casual, and the other a little more glam with the addition of heels and a faux fur coat, I feel that these two looks are just really ‘me’.
March
March saw a lot more Outfit of the Day posts get published on the blog, so choosing one outfit for March was even harder. I really loved the way this Goddiva brown coat complimented some brown knee high boots – two items which I would not have usually chosen to wear. Similarly, I loved experimenting with this PVC skirt and indulging my inner Katy Perry in this heart print swing dress. However, I just had to go with my favourite outfit I wore to Day 2 of February 2014’s London Fashion Week (AW14 Season) – I had so many Street Style photographs taken of me that it just had to be a hit, right…?
April

My favourite outfit in April had to be this 1940’s, babydoll inspired look. Although I absolutely loved the darker side of fashion, the other half of me also loves the vintage aesthetic – how everything in the 1940’s was so dark, with WW2 being such a horrific time and yet the structure of the fashion was so beautiful. Also, probably worth mentioning my first delve into the two piece co-ord happened in April; a love affair that was to continue throughout 2014.
May

One of my most read blog posts of 2014 was published in May – my Festival Fashion essentials. Although I did confess in my blog post that heels are definitely not festival-appropriate (heck, I’m allowed some artistic creativity, right?), I did give my tips for attending a festival just in time for the season. At the same time, I shared my Day At The Races look; quite a contrast to a festival!
June

In June, my love affair with the two piece reached new heights and I shared two of my favourite high street two pieces, this beautiful American Apparel sunflower print dupe set from Miss Pap, and this blue and white damask crop top and shorts set. Both of these were new looks for me (never would I have usually felt confident enough to wear a crop top and shorts – but in 2014 I started to embrace my body shape even more). I also posted this outfit as part of an exclusive campaign with luxury childrenswear designer David Charles – pretty proud of myself for squeezing into a size aged 12 dress!
July

For July’s favourite outfit, I picked this 1960’s style look I went for with a geometric shift dress and white tights. I also shot an Outfit of the Day video of this look, which I really loved – a lot of gracious photos of the daffodils but why not, when they are so beautiful and summery?
August

In August I continued my summery Outfit of the Day theme (duh) and posted this two piece crop top and shorts set outfit. I told you 2014 was the year of the co-ord! I also thought this modern retro look was worth a mention, especially as I shot another Outfit of the Day video of it; again, a lot of gracious shots of the view, but when the scenery is so beautiful I can’t help it!
September
I was spoilt for choice for what blog post to share for September – I almost thought my London Fashion Week SS15 Season Outfit should be the chosen one, but the blog post wasn’t solely just about my outfit. Also, I published my Summer Holiday Lookbook on YouTube in September, but again not a sole Outfit of the Day blog post. Instead, it had to be a top 3 outfit post of mine for 2014 – also one of my top 3 read blog posts published last year, my sunflower kimono and Nica handbag look, shot in the Northern Quarter of Manchester.
October
My favourite Outfit in October had to be my halloween Outfit of the Day. Probably the most 1990’s I could ever get. In general, I hate this trend (for halloween I thought of the scariest thing I could dress as – a 90’s chick!) but I actually received a ton of compliments on this look. Not sure how that makes me feel, really, considering I am pretty sure I had this exact same outfit when I was 10.
November

In November, I posted quite a lot of Outfit of the Day’s, including what I wore to my sister’s graduation ceremony and my first delve into wearing a cape (one of AW14’s biggest trends). However, I had to select this smart casual look as my favourite for the month – it’s just very ‘me’, with the blouse, hat and spiked necklace. Plus, the setting is Manchester’s Albert Square, outside our town hall, which is just beautiful.

December

December, it’s only just finished (less than 24 hours ago!) and in this month I look on my first Blogmas. The first time I’ve committed to published a blog post every single day for a month, and I am proud to say I succeeded. In the run up to Christmas, I even posted more than once a day a couple of times (3 times on Christmas eve) and I am so proud of fulfilling this alongside a full on, full time job.
So, for December it was hard to pick just one outfit. I really loved my casual, off-plan looks that I snapped whilst out and about, the ones taken on walks out, as well as the ones that took a little more planning. However, as it’s the most festive time of the year, I just went for a really simple winter coat/Christmas jumper look as my outfit of choice.
So kittens, here’s to 2014’s trends – and looking forward to what 2015 might have to offer us too. Leave me a comment below and let me know which your favourite look was last year. Oh, and Happy New Year!
