Blogging Tips For Beginners

Hey kittens, today’s blog post is highly requested. Almost every day, in one way or another -whether via email, Twitter or people asking me in real life – what my top tips for starting a blog are. I love giving advice and if any of my pearls of wisdom (questionable) can help any of you in starting a new hobbie, then I’m happy!
Instead of getting into the technicalities and the specifics – there’s tons of blog posts out there that do that – I thought I would share my personal recommendations for keeping in mind when starting a blog. These are 3 general top tips, so can apply to any sort of blog, be if fashion, beauty, lifestyle, food… You get the picture.

1. Be yourself.
Let’s get the cheesy one out of the way – always be yourself! I see a lot of people giving advice to others by saying ‘read what you think others will want to read’ and whilst I do see the logic, I can’t help but think it’s a little misleading. I write whatever I want to write. I film whatever I want to film. And I share honest opinions that are 100% my own whether a post is sponsored or not. I would never represent a brand that doesn’t fit my personal style, and I think the key to retaining credibility is that. Readers need to trust what you’re telling them, or they won’t read.
2. Be social.
When I first starting my blog/YouTube oh so many years ago (nearly 3!) blogs were pretty much unknown in the wider world – I used to have to explain it to people in real life who would look baffled, and online I had no idea blogging communities existed. Now I am very active in the fashion and beauty blogging communities, both on Twitter and by networking at events. Aside from opening yourself up to opportunities, it’s a great way to make friends!

3. Be organised.
Working full time and blogging as frequently as I do (daily at the moment for #blogmas and one new YouTube video a week) is basically like having two jobs. I’m not gonna lie, it’s hard work. Few people are lucky – or confident enough – to take up blogging full time, so if you are in the same boat as me, your best bet is to get organised. Get a couple of social media posts scheduled in for when you know you will be busy – but don’t over-do it, no one likes a robot. Make sure your blog is set up securely and easily accessible from the devices you like to write from – I like to use my laptop when at home, and iPad for on the go. Little bits of organisation to make your life a little bit easier will help you keep enjoying it, and I can honestly say I love blogging now as much as I did when I first started.
So kittens, I hope my top 3 tips for starting a blog helped you if you are struggling for where to start – or even struggling to keep going. Let me tell you, blogging is hard work but give these steps a try and it might just get a little easier for you.
