Hey kittens, welcome to my first Outfit of the Day of 2014 – hope you like it! Today’s outfit is a very casual, wintery look and, I like to think, a little bit festive. Well, it’s almost still Christmas, right? Right? Okay, I’m having a hard time leaving the holidays behind and this festive tartan is a feeble attempt at ridding the January blues. Boo!

Speaking of tartan, ever since stepping into the tartan trend in September, I’ve since featured the pattern a number of times and it’s fast becoming one of my favourite prints. Heck, I’ll never be able to leave leopard print or the union jack as my prints of choice, but if there’s room for a third, tartan has crept into my Top 3. This tartan swing dress from Karma is a super easy way to wear the trend and looks just as stylish as any other way – slap it on and you’re done!

These SpyLoveBuy boots are a new addition to my wardrobe and a little out of my comfort zone, to be honest. I’ve always shied away from over-the-knee boots (I have horrific visions of THOSE boots in Pretty Woman) but as knee-highs have been so huge this winter, I thought I would give them a go. I don’t think they’ll be replacing my trusty ankle booties any time soon, but for shoes I wouldn’t usually wear, I do like them. The riding boot design – note the buckle and spurs on the ankle and studs at the top – is bang on trend and they feel far more expensive than they are.

For the rest of my accessories, I kept things simple. I wore my trusty Vivienne Westwood handbag, a statement necklace from Primark and my black fedora, which I’m pretty sure hasn’t left my head all winter. As it was a bit chilly, I wore this chiffon-style scarf which was a bargainous £1 from the market! I know, right?! The Versace-esque chain design also ties into the black and gold highlights of the outfit quite nicely.

So kittens, have you been wearing tartan this year? Do you own any swing dresses? Leave me a comment below and let me know. Love to hear from y’all!
