Experimenting with Spring Makeup Trends

makeup-beauty-lipstick-make-upGood morning, kittens. It’s a sunny day here in Manchester and for the past couple of days we’ve been treated to a lovely little break from April Showers. What a treat! With the sun shining whilst getting ready for work this morning, it prompted me to swap out my classic red lip for a coral pink; a different choice for me, but it just felt so much more ‘Spring’ like. Like fashion, I often find my beauty choices are influenced by the seasons and although we all talk about the ‘no makeup, makeup look’ in Spring and Summer, I don’t think there is often much attention paid to experimenting with different shades or textures. Yeah, it might be sunny, but I still wanna wear my lippy!

For so long, runways showcased models with the fresh-faced, “no makeup” look, revealing how underrated the minimalist look truly was. Perhaps designers and backstage stylists were influenced by the results of a Women’s Health Magazine study that revealed women take nearly an hour on average per day just primping. Maybe the popularity of the natural makeup made people feel a little less narcissistic…

But the thing is, no one should be mistaking confidence for narcissism. Makeup has this undeniable power to bring out your inner diva, and no one should ever take that away from you. Heck, I’d never let them! And thankfully, this season’s beauty trends are a reflection of our need to be bold once again, finally ending the reign of no-makeup makeup. Hallelujah!

Although I like trying new lip colours and nail polishes, introducing new beauty trends into our routine is sometimes easier said than done. With a specific morning regimen we follow, it can be rather difficult to adjust – we all have our little habits and structures that are hard to break, like my instance on putting on my eyeliner, then my mascara, then my lipstick –  but one strategy that can definitely make the process easier is a little game called Makeup Bingo. Yes, really.

I know guys, stick with me. You might think bingo appears to have no place in our daily beauty routines, yet using the same tehcnique from the game to add to our makeup bags has proven to be quite an asset to anyone who is obsessed with fashion and beauty. Other than the Boohoo phenomenon known as Wardrobe Bingo, several other bloggers (including me!) have also been playing Makeup Bingo to play up their different makeup looks rather than sticking to the usual eyeliner and lipstick routine (guilty!). The fascination with all these different bingo themes has even encouraged Gala Bingo, known for their personalized service and VIP gaming options, to offer their two cents to the beauty industry, previously hosting international makeup guru Mikey Phillips to share hacks with bingo players. Funny how these things always work out complimenting each other.

So, you wanna know how to play it yourself and switch up your makeup routine? At the moment the Makeup Bingo I’m playing concentrates on experimentation with spring trends – remember my coral lipstick? Rather than leaving every part of your face up to fate, your customized card will include the season’s beauty trends as shown on Harper’s Bazaar and Cosmopolitan. Once you’ve got your list of 25 makeup techniques, randomize the items and write down the same items on separate pieces of paper that are to be placed in an empty jar. Add pictures to the items as a guide. If you’ve got friends who also love makeup, tell them to fashion their own cards so all of you can see different interpretations of this spring’s beauty trends. Or, even try playing it on each other; I gave it a go with my sister and it was pretty funny.

So kittens, let me know what you think of switching up your beauty routine for Spring. Will you be experimenting with this year’s SS16 trends, or sticking to your usual makeup stash? I personally think this is the ideal transitional time to get stuck into new colours, try new foundation finishes and inject a little fun back into our makeup routine. Come join me.
