How To Be More Environmental At Home

If you are trying to make a change and become more environmental in your actions, look no further. Being intentional and varying your lifestyle for the betterment of the planet does not have to be an all or nothing proposition. Start small or do what you can. You can grow in your efforts and determinations. Read on to find some great ways to get started!

Rethink Your Water Usage

There are many ways to take environmental action regarding how much water you use in your home. Here are a few ideas to try.

Invest in a Water Tank

Purchasing a large water tank for your property is a decision you will be grateful for as years pass by. With a water tank, you can collect and store rainwater to use for a rainy day – or every day. This type of tank promotes a self-sustaining and clean living lifestyle since you will not need to rely on the local public water supply. A water tank will provide water for all household needs, garden irrigation, or fire suppression. They even come in a full range of colours. Today’s water tanks are high-quality and can blend in with your existing buildings or complement the property.

Reduce Bathing Time

If you love relaxing during a leisurely shower or bath, you are not alone. Bathing consumes larger amounts of water than you may realize. When you spend too much time washing or soaking, the water is actually going down the drain. To make a change, begin by timing your showers. If you take 20 minutes, make it a goal to reduce that to 15 minutes. After you have sustained that timeframe, reduce it even further as you are able while still enjoying it.

Collect Greywater

During showers, place a bucket or pail on the floor to collect greywater for later use. It is an easy and seamless action because all you do is remember the bucket. The rest is done while you shower. After bathing in a tub, plunge your bucket into the used bathwater for the same purposes. Greywater primarily consists of previously used water (excluding sewage). The uses for greywater include watering plants, cleaning, and laundry. By reusing viable water, you will reduce the demand for freshwater.

Wash Your Vehicle at Home

A major water-waster in the world are commercial car washes. While they are quick and convenient, they are also notorious for their vast amounts of unnecessary water consumption. Additionally, while some car wash companies use more environmentally friendly soaps and finishing rinses, most do not. This leads to more toxic contaminants leaching into the ground, crops, and general water supply. Instead of going elsewhere to have your vehicle washed, do it yourself at home. Make it a fun activity for you and your family, or put in your (waterproof) earbuds and listen to the latest podcast or a great playlist.

Being eco-friendly is essential for all parts of your home and lifestyle. Start making positive steps forward for yourself and the environment. You will feel good knowing you are making a difference and having fun along the way.
