How To Combine Long-Term Travel With Work

The opportunity to combine the love for travel and work is always a dream for any travel lover. Unfortunately, not many manage to incorporate this way of life long-term, as it can be pretty tricky trying to get paid while travelling unless your job already requires it. So, what if you’re not a digital nomad or don’t have a job that allows you to travel and work full-time? How do you combine your love for travelling and work for the long term? These tips should help set you off.

Be sure you want to travel full-time

Going on a full-time trip requires a lot of time, commitment, and resources, and you need to be sure that it is what you want to do. This is especially important if this trip would be your first long-term one. Be sure that you’re ready to live like a nomad, eat different foods, sleep at different places, and other travel necessities.

Pick destinations closer to you

Perhaps you are not planning on becoming a nomad but love the chance to travel long-term while maintaining your job. In this case, you should try to pick travel destinations that are much closer to you and don’t require you to invest too much time, energy, and finances. For example, if you live in the UK, you can find several beautiful destinations closer to or within the UK.

Pick a job that suits your travel needs

This point may sound easier said than done. However, if you have the option available to you, pick a job that suits your travel needs. If you’re yet to start working or still in school, then you might want to focus your job search on areas or opportunities that make it possible to travel long-term while working. Some of the best career options you may have in this regard include freelancing in fields that match your skills. This way, you can quickly become a digital nomad. You can also be a social media influencer, work in the tourism industry, or opt for education jobs overseas.

Before you travel to work in any foreign country, you need to meet all necessary legal requirements. For example, if your job requires you to live in the UK for more than five years, you can apply for indefinite leave to remain in the UK.

Take advantage of remote working

Thanks to the current pandemic, most companies have now adopted remote working strategies. If your workplace allows for remote working, you have an easier chance to travel long-term while you work. The most important thing is that you have everything you need to work away from your traditional office space while you travel.

Arrange a vacation of some time

If remote working is not an option for you, then you can arrange a vacation for some time, with enough vacation days that allow you to live out your long-term travel dream. This way, you can plan your trips to fit right into your vacation schedule, depending on how much vacation time you have.
