How To Create a Boudoir

My room is my boudoir. Totally, 100% mine and exactly how I always wanted. It might not be to everyone’s taste but I love all things monochrome, elaborate patterns and metallic features. Scandi style might be having it’s moment and minimalist is the way forward for many, but that’s not me, and so today I’m going to be sharing my tips on how to create the perfect retro inspired Boudoir from the comfort of your own home. Here’s how to create a boudoir in your bedroom.

Colour Theme

The colour theme in my room is pretty obvious – it’s all things monochrome and the only things allowed to divert from that are my pug puppy Sonny and his own pug toy, Reggie. I’m kinda a control freak and a perfectionist, so when anything diverts from a theme it really niggles at me. Luckily there are loads of lovely soft furnishings and homewear accessories to compliment white, black, greys and silver and so I don’t have a hard job finding things to match.

Ornaments

I am definitely not a minimalist – I love the bold, the patterned and the elaborate. It might not be for everyone but something about these remind me of vintage boudoirs and retro high-end hotels that I just love to emulate in my home. I’m not one for small knick-knacks but statement pieces like this white (faux!) stag head are right up my street. I mean, I would NEVER have any actual taxidermy but I love this modern twist on a retro classic.

Organisation

Whilst my bedroom’s primarily function is a place to chill out and relax, it’s also the place where most of my belongings reside. And heck, I’m a neat freak and can’t have them all on show! Although my own home doesn’t represent Scandi style, I have a total appreciations for the minimalist and how through clever storage you can hide away your items efficiently. Scandi style stores such as Skandium have totally inspired me to be more clever about my storage, and only by using clever methods to hide away what I own can I feel totally zen in my de-cluttered room.

Accessories

When trying to recreate a boudoir for your bedroom, attention to detail is key and it’s these little finishing touches that can really make you feel at home and play up to your theme. I’m a candle obsessor and so in my home I make sure to always have a scented candle lit – not only do the flickering flames look relaxing, but you can choose how you wish to fragrance your home. I love deep, herbal scents and so organic candles such as NEOM are always my favourite over more artificial scents such as Yankee Candles, which I tend to save for emulating seasonal scents through accessories such as Christmas themed candles.
Personality

Finally, let’s not forget that this is your bedroom. All your’s. And so it’s only right that you inject a little personality into the space – hey, you’re gonna be spending almost half your life sleeping here so it’s gotta be for you. Although I’m a theme freak and hate anything that goes against my monochrome, vintage style, my room includes little nods to other parts of my life that I can’t ignore. Take this quote for example – it came with an order of the first present ever bought for my baby Sonny and although it’s just a postcard, it beautifully fits what I am about and nicely co-ordinates with my black and white theme too. It’s a nod to me, and my baby, in my home.
