How To Save On Your Car Insurance

When it comes to owning a car, one of the biggest expenses can often be getting car insurance. For many people, the amount that you pay in insurance can be considerably higher based on age, driving experience, location, and so many other factors.

Keeping the costs of your insurance as low as possible should be the name of the game, and you will want to look for ways that you can minimize this cost.

Having A Secure Garage

Generally speaking, your car will be parked up at your home overnight most of the time. And, if your car is likely to get stolen from anywhere, the odds are that there is a strong possibility that this may happen here.

Keeping your car off-road will drop your insurance by a considerable amount. Even just having it on a driveway can help you. But, if your car is locked away in a garage it will be away from the prying eyes of would-be car thieves and as such, there is less risk of your car being stolen when you are at home.

To add extra security get a Merlin’s PowerAce garage door fitted. You should also think about getting flood lamps around the entrances to your garage that work off a motion sensor. If you live in an area with a high crime rate, then you may also want to consider getting your garage fitted with an alarm.

Get A Black Box Fitted

If you are a newer driver, one of the best ways of dropping your insurance premium is by showing that you are a careful driver. You can do this by having a black box fitted to your car that sends data on your driving back to your insurance company. This will mean that you need to make considered driving choices and avoid doing anything reckless on the roads. This can help greatly if you are under 25 as this is an age bracket that often pays considerably higher premiums.

Shopping Around

If you have been with your current insurer for a year, they will want to automatically roll over your policy to cover you for the next year. As convenient as it is to stick with the same company, you will very often find that you will suddenly see a huge price hike at the point of renewal.

It is far better that you shop around as early as possible in order to get a much better deal elsewhere. There are a number of comparison websites that will offer up various quotes from several different insurers. Try all of the comparison sites, and not just one of them.

Remember, when comparing insurance policies that you need to factor in the level of cover that you have, the amount that you will need to pay in excess in the event of a claim, and also any additional features that you may have added such as legal protection, and any additional personal accident cover too.
