Makeup Revolution Cosmetics Best Buys

Hey kittens, today’s blog post is introducing a pretty new make-up brand, but one that’s been taking the blogosphere by storm. Revolution, or Makeup Revolution, is a cosmetics brand that launched this year and so far has only been available to purchase online (but there are hints of it appearing in Superdrug in the UK very soon!). They’re famed for their dupes of high end products, so today I’m showing you my ‘best buys’ from their current cosmetics collection.

Naturally, as a lipstick lover, I was drawn to try Makeup Revolution’s lipstick offering. As long time fan of the classic red lip, I thought I would take the opportunity to move a little out of my comfort zone and try some darker shades ready for Autumn Winer 2014. These three shades (L-R: Rebel With Cause*, 100% Vamp* and Black Heart*) are from The Vamp Collection
Slightly darker than I would normally choose, I’m actually really impressed with these lipsticks and can see myself wearing them more as the nights draw in. My favourite is Rebel With Cause, which is a blue toned, dark pink (which pays off a little lighter than shown above), closely followed by 100% Vamp which I’m pretty sure is a good dupe for my Mac Cyber lipstick at a fraction of the price. Although not as long lasting, the pigment is actually really impressive and I don’t mind reapplying after my lunch to save me £15!
If you aren’t used to wearing darker lipsticks and would like to try something a little different, I highly recommend trying these. At £1 each, if you don’t like them, you’re only losing pennies as opposed to splashing out on a high end lipstick and never wearing it (you live and you learn!). Plus, if you purchase all three of The Vamp Collection together, you get one free, costing you £2 for 3 lipsticks. I mean, the prices are just crazy cheap!

Secondly, I picked out the Revolution Ultra Bronze Shimmer Highlight* to try. Again, this is super affordable at only £4 and you get a pretty decent amount of product for that price. The bronzer is almost palette-esque, with three different shades included, ranging from a light ‘highlight’ colour, to medium, to a darker bronze.
Personally, this is just about the right bronzer shade for me and as a pale lady, I often find it hard to find a bronzer that doesn’t look ridiculously orange or far too dark on me. This is probably only suitable for fair to medium skintones as a bronzer, although would probably make a pretty highlight on dark skin. The highlight has a very subtle shimmer, but I tend to just brush a Real Techniques Contour Brush throughout the whole pan and get a sweep of all colours in one.

Finally, I have saved my favourite of Makeup Revolution’s products until last: the Iconic 2 Eyeshadow Palette*.  If you think you’ve seen these colours before, you probably have. It’s nearly a dead ringer dupe for the Urban Decay Naked 1 Palette, which is personally my favourite eyeshadow palette to date, yet at around £32 is a hefty price to pay compared to the measly £4 this Makeup Revolution dupe will set you back. If you would like to see a full comparison post between the two, please just let me know.
The Iconic 2 palette is smaller than its Urban Decay counterpart and the brush isn’t great to be honest, but for almost thirty quid less I can deal with it. I can see this little becoming a welcome addition to my travel makeup bag. Heck knows I’m too scared to cart around my Naked palettes for fear of smashing them, but with this one, I can easily replace it should anything catastrophic happen. The colours are almost identical and the pay-off of shade is pretty good. I’m impressed.

Over all, I’m really happy with my Makeup Revolution bits and bobs. Despite splashing out on the occasional ‘special’ makeup piece, I like to keep things pretty drugstore in my makeup collection and you can’t really get more affordable than these. With Revolution bringing out more and more high end makeup dupes every few weeks, I’m keen to try some more to see how they live up to my much loved facvourites.
