Manchester Talent: Sidnie Co Couture

Afternoon kittens! As y’all know, I’m a huge fan of my hometown Manchester and the talent it nurtures, especially in regards to the fashion industry. For a bit of a quick update on Manchester’s inherent historical ties to the fashion, check out my quick post on Manchester’s fashion history for a fly-by update on Mancunion history.
In my opinion, Manchester is the fashion capital of the UK – check out my blog posts on Vogue Fashion Night Out, Manchester Fashion Week and Mary Katrantzou Visits Manchester for more gossip on that. I love to blog about new homegrown talent, which is why I am delighted to introduce glamour puss Sidnie Co Couture to y’all!
Sidnie Co Couture is a Manchester based fashion designer who has a quirky yet glamorous boutique located on the border of Hulme and old Trafford, which only opened two years ago. Sidnie Co Couture combines strong African prints with edgy cuts to create something that is not just fantastic to wear, but to admire too. She’s been in the press recently as she’s designed clothing worn by X Factor finalist (and Manchester homegirl) Misha B and has recently designed the outfit worn by re-emerging pop artist Cleopatra, for her performances on The Voice. Pretty impressive, eh?
So kittens, what do you think of Sidnie’s designs? I love her mix of animal and tribal print, and bold colorus and black – confident and feisty whilst maintaining a sense of glamour and edge. She’s a kitten after my own heart! Sidnie’s distinctive style hails to her Afro-Caribbean roots; teaming strong, bold prints and African patterns with a European finish. When I asked her what her target audience was, she said women that “are still interested in dressing up” and she describes her boutique based in Old Trafford, Manchester, as an ‘adult dressing up box’. Cute!

In terms of an influence on our beloved Manc city, Sidnie opened her boutique with the idea of creating a destination for art in an unlikely corner of Old Trafford. She has created a space that encompasses an eclectic mix of fashion and art. Visitors can relax in the retro style seating area, take in some art produced by local artists before enjoying the uniqueness of Sidnie’s one-off pieces. The bouquet also sells quirky fashion, bespoke jewelry and specialises in a “Made-to Measure” service. With fashion and design forming an important part of her upbringing as her mother regularly created pieces for her and family members, Sidnie has developed a love for transforming a piece of fabric into “a work of art on flesh”.
Right kitty cats, what do you think of this African inspired pussycat? Reckon she’s a right lioness? Leave me a comment below and let me know! And don’t forget to follow me on Twitterlike my Facebook page and subscribe to my Youtube channel to keep up to date with all things fashion!
