Outfit of the Day: “Stripes and Peplum”

Well, this outfit isn’t my usual style, but as I state in the video – fashion is all about experimenting! This look was created in order to try and encorproate a number of 2012 trends – all of which I wouldn’t usually choose to participate in – and make them my own!

As I’m sure you can see, the main event in this outfit is this stunning peplum top. I’ve had this top for about three years but never, ever worn it (and must confess have only worn it during this outfit). However, I must have premediated both the peplum and stripe trend and hung onto it for this reason!

The peplum sillouhette has been huge in Summer 2012 and Autumn 2012 is set to carry on the trend with darker, maroon colours. I must say, I do like the way the peplum sits on my hips, but the bralette style neckline is not one I would feel comfortable wearing out; its a bit too underwear for outerwear for my liking. Stripes have also been huge since Winter 2011 and its taken me a long while to warm to them and I am still not certain I will be investing in any more stripy pieces. However, vertical black and white lines have been huge and I wanted to give them a go!

I wanted to keep the look totally monochrome (again, sneakily slipping another trend into the outfit) and so chose a black body con skirt. I like the fitted look of the skirt as it helps to really emphasise the peplum sillouhette, which is really the whole point of this shapewear. The skirt also has some horizontal stripes on it, sneaky bit of stripe continuation there!

For my accessories I chose my trusty New Look faux-seude wedges, which compliment any outfit with both their durability and edgy shape and these sunglasses sourced from a Chinese eBay store. These sunglasses are also not my usual ones and I have barely worn them, but I felt the harsh cat-eye lines really complimented the mixture of shapes within the outfit.

Please let me know what you think, as I would love to hear your opinions on the stripe and peplum trends!
