Prepping for a Spring Road-Trip

Now the Spring break holidays are here I’m finding myself craving exploring again. I’ve got itchy feet and I want to travel across the UK to discover new hidden gems and rediscover my favourite places, and the easiest way to do that over here is on a road-trip.

If you’re also considering a road-trip this Spring, make sure your car is safe and ready to go – you wouldn’t want an unwanted delays or breakdowns to ruin your holidays – and ensure you’re following some of my top tips for preparing your car before long journeys.

Refuel

Refuel, refuel, refuel. It might seem like an obvious one but you would be surprised how many people I know have been caught out by running out of petrol halfway through a journey. If you have a long road-trip coming up, check how much fuel you have left. I would always recommending topping up when you get to your last quarter (before the tank totally runs dry) just to be safe.

Check Tyre Pressure

When filling up your petrol before a long journey, make sure you take advantage of the free tyre pressure machines to check your tyre pressure. At most petrol stations you can fill up your tyres full of air for free (or a very small fee) to ensure they’re at the safe pressure for driving. This will help prevent flat tyres and bumps along the way.

Select New Tyres

Make sure to always ensure your tyres are in tip top condition, especially before setting off on a roadtrip. You should change your tyres every couple of years for optimum safety, and this will of course vary depending on how often you use your car and how far you drive. To buy car tyres in Glenrothes visit Fife Autocentre.

Pack Backup Items

Before setting off, make sure you have all the supplies you need in your car. Remember to pack useful items in case of a breakdown such as a spare tyre, spanner and blanket to keep you warm in case you have to wait outside or are stuck in your car for any length of time.

Oh, it’s also worth packing snacks and drinks for the same reason. Or just in case you fancy some nibbles on the journey. Either or is fine!

Safety First

Finally, make sure yourself and your passengers are all safely strapped in for the whole journey. I know this goes without saying for most people and I would never dream of travelling without my seatbelt, but it is still worth checking all your passengers are safely strapped in.

I also have a booster dog seat for my pug, Sonny, that keeps him strapped in safely for the whole journey. In fact, having pets strapped in is a legal requirement now too so make sure your furry friend is tucked in all safe before your road trip too!
