The 3 Top Skills Needed To Be A Food Blogger

These days it is easier than ever to turn a passion into a business. Whatever your skill is, there is somebody out there who would want to learn from you. This is why there are so many food bloggers out there. However, only a few of them have been successful.

Why are some food bloggers more successful than others? They have a certain skill set beyond just being a good cook. They understand things like which is the best lighting for product photography and other skills that help their blog work.

Whether you are a beginner blogger or have been around a while but aren’t seeing much success then read on for some of the top skills to learn.

1 – SEO knowledge

It doesn’t matter how good a cook you are and how incredible your recipes could be. If you don’t know SEO then not many people are going to see your blog. SEO means Search Engine Optimization. It is a skill that involves doing a lot of things on your posts and website as a whole so your recipes will rank high in the search results and bring in lots of organic traffic. Since there is so much competition in the food category, it is really important to get this right so your blog can be seen.

Make sure to research what keywords people are using to find recipes so you can use them in the content when you write a post. You should also target food to cook that has low competition by high search volume.

There are also technical SEO techniques that will help you. Page speed is a very important one since Google is prioritizing sites that pass their speed tests. Also, make sure to use recipe plugins for your recipe so Google can use the code to understand what the recipe is about.

2 – Social media marketing

Second to organic traffic is social media traffic. You’ll need to understand marketing to build a sizable enough following to actually get traffic to your blog from it. The reason is that social media is a place for people to kill time and not necessarily to take action on things.

This means that getting people from Instagram to your website, for example, is not easy. What social media can do for you, however, is to build your brand so when people do end up searching for a recipe they remember that you did they will either search on the platform or on Google with your blog name.

3 – Videography

If you have a food blog and aren’t using Youtube or Tik Tok then you are not setting yourself up for success. Since food is very visual people want to see the steps involved in making a recipe so they turn to video.

Make sure that you are using Youtube in conjunction with a website to get traffic and build your brand. You can even make a living as a food blogger just from Youtube.
