Manchester Talent: Sofia D Couture Fashion Show

Hey kitty cats and glamour puss’s (awkward to say!)
A couple of weeks ago I attended Sofia D Couture‘s formal wear fashion show at The Palace Hotel, Manchester. I know this post is a little delayed but I couldn’t resist featuring Sofa D Couture again on my blog – see here for my Birmingham Fashion Week video (please excuse the sound at the end, I can’t work out how to fix it!) and event review which features her stunning collection.

A local gal, Sofia officially launched Sofia Couture, a high-end, luxury range of women’s clothing in 2011 and has already hosted two successful and acclaimed fashion shows of her own – impressive, eh? The collection included four sections, which were a Valentine’s collection, a Cocktail Collection (my favourite), an Office and Evening collection – which contained beautiful floor length gowns – and Leather. One of my favourite dresses was a black satin, babydoll shape dress with three quarter sleeves; I could definitely see myself wearing one of those!

I attended on behalf of Manchester Fashion Week 2013 and loved viewing the collection – the room was packed full of support and I loved the family touches, such as Sofia’s own mum welcoming us with homemade Greek goodie bags – so sweet! We were also treated to an interval performance by North West’s Search for a Star contestant, Amy Jo Clough, who performed both acoustic and backed songs – my favourite was the Amy Winehouse medley!

I just loved the whole collection, they were beautiful and suitable for every glamour puss! Many of the designs hark back to the designer’s Greek roots – which I love – with inspiration taken from Greek architecture, flowing lines inspired by the sea and wind, bright whites, bold uses of colour as well as silver and gold, reflecting sparkling waters and sandy beaches. Sofia has many signature elements to her designs, fishtails, ruffles and gathers, elegant flowing dresses, low scoops, as well as bold, brightly coloured fabrics and classic black and white pieces. In her upcoming collection, I am told that white will be a key theme for the show, with graceful, feminine dresses featuring stand-out details, while many of these will feature silver and gold highlights – snazzy, eh?

Since meeting Sofia for the first time in December, I have kept in touch with her as we have both been heavily involved with Manchester Fashion Week and Birmingham Fashion Week. She’s a proper lovely kitty cat and I’m so looking forward to wearing one of her dresses one day! Of the collection, Sofia said, “colour is so powerful and can really express a person’s
emotions and character and I love to create bold yet elegant designs.”

I was lucky enough to get a little interview with the designer herself, so when asked about Manchester Fashion Week, Sofia said, “it is a fantastic honour for me to feature as one of the
main designers at MCRFW13. My previous fashion shows for Sofia Couture have been hugely successful, well-attended and received many positive reviews from fashion bloggers, websites and wider regional and national press. Fashion and design have always been my passions and my philosophy is to
create elegant feminine designs that are creative, unusual and suitable for a wide range of occasions, from parties, galas and events, to weddings and formal dinners and even for the office. I like to create timeless designs suitable for ladies of any age, in both classic, practical shapes, in either pencil or skater-style, as well as dramatic floor-length gowns.”

Y’all know I love a local brand and Sofia, a Fallowfield fashion designer, has secured an exclusive catwalk show at Manchester Fashion Week 2013. Sofia Couture will showcase her new lines for SS13, previewing 25 pieces, including a new bridal collection. A gal after my own heart, the up and coming designer has lived and worked in our beautiful Manchester for ten years and she is looking to break into the vibrant UK fashion community. Keeping her roots close, Sofia studied Fashion Design at Salford University then went on to complete a Masters in Textiles Technology at the University of Manchester. During her studies, she won the Best Designer Award in the International Student Festival. Sofia said, “whilst in full time employment I have still managed to design and create dresses on a small scale for friends and family but it feels like a dream come true to be showcasing my collection at Manchester Fashion Week 2013.” Werk it, gurl!

So kittens, I had a fabulous time viewing Sofia‘s collections for a second time and I can’t wait to see them for a third at Manchester Fashion Week. Sofia is a genuinely lovely lady and I can’t wait to wear some of her items myself one day – I wish her the best of luck.
