Some Things That Can Make Your Home Look Cheap

We all want our homes to look their best. They are a reflection of us; our styles and our personalities, so it is not surprising, that we want our homes to scream style and sophistication.

Unfortunately, there are a number of very common things that can make our homes seem cheap and less put together than we would often like. Let’s take a look at some of them now, so we can avoid having them ruin the ambience of our own homes.

Clutter

If there’s one thing that can make your home look cheap and messy it is clutter. Having stuff spilling out of drawers and wardrobes is never going to impress, which is why you should get your clutter on or look into hiring some personal storage right now if you know you have too much stuff in your home and too little space to safely store it out of view.

Too much stuff that’s on-trend

This might sound odd, but your home can end up looking cheap and tacky if you follow the latest home decor trends too closely. The most stylish and sophisticated homes are filled with pieces that are timeless classics from velvet chaise lounges to solid wood dining tables. So, although there’s nothing wrong with having the latest trends in your home, mix things up with lots of timeless classics too.

Fake flowers

Flower bouquets can make any home seem more glamorous, but if you opt to fake them and the flowers you choose are fake and plastic-heavy, then the opposite effect is likely to be achieved. If you cannot afford fresh flowers or you are unable to keep live plants alive, and you cannot afford quality silk flowers, it is often better to do without them.

Poor lighting

Lighting that is too low can make your beautiful ho,e look dark and dingy, but lighting that is too bright can make the place seem cold and clinical, both of which can make your home seem cheap. That is why it is a good idea to install lights with dimmer switches and have lots of different lighting options from ceiling lamps to uplighters on the walls and lamps on the tables. That way, you can always create the right ambience for every situation, and your home will look and feel more sumptuous as a result.

Lack of layering

If you have carpets, rugs, cushions and blankets in your home, it does not matter how high quality they are, if you do not use the layering technique, there is a good chance they will end up looking cheap. Layering fabric upon fabric, bringing in different colours and textures is a really easy way to make your home feel sumptuous and expensive, and the more layers, the more luxe it will feel.

If you can avoid doing most of the above in your home, then you can be sure that it will look as stylish, sophisticated and well put together as you do – what’s not to love?
