Fahrenheit at Genting Club Manchester

Fahrenheit at Genting Club Manchester

Would you ever go to a Casino for a meal? Honestly, I never really considered it until I was invited down to try out Fahrenheit at Genting Club Manchester to see if I could make a night of it at one of Manchester’s largest and most famous casinos. I wasn’t sure what to expect, so follow my evening to find out what I got up to and what I thought…

I was welcomed into Genting Casino by some extremely friendly staff on the front desk. One of the things you have to remember about visiting a Casino – whether you want to gamble or not – is that you need to sign up or show ID for the night. This might be a bit intimidating if you’re not used to it, but I guess it’s just to keep everyone safe. After being led downstairs and through the Casino, I was welcomed into the Fahrenheit restaurant. Fahrenheit at Genting Club Manchester prides itself as a high class restaurant, so I was excited to try it for myself for the first time.

Fahrenheit is decorated absolutely beautifully. One side of the restaurant is lined with black leather booths, and the rest have sophisticated tables and leather chairs. There’s flowers and mirrors everywhere, and one of my favourite parts were the tea light candles scattered all over. It felt quite romantic, if I’m being totally honest, and as soon as I was settled in with a bottle of wine it was so easy to forget you were in a bustling Casino.

I was intrigued to see whether the taste of the food lived up to the standard of the look in the restaurant, so to start I ordered one of my favourite dishes to really put them to the test; halloumi… And well, they passed with flying colours! The Josper Roasted Halloumi was not only presented wonderfully, roasted with a colourful mix of spinach, avocado and chilli vierge, it tasted just as good as it looks. Served with a couple of slices of homecooked bread and an oil dip, it was absolutely delicious and I would 100% order this again.

With a fresh rocket side salad to share (gotta get the greens in!) my guest went for another beautifully presented starter. He chose the Confit Duck Leg and although this cost £7 for a starter, the portion size is absolutely incredible and in some restaurants this would pass for a main course. I am told it was divine and it certainly looked like it would be. Two large duck legs were served with various colourful accompaniments, including yellow beetroot which I had never seen before and definitely got us talking!

For mains, there was a huge selection to choose from on both the Grill Menu and Mains menu. Not being able to resist the promise of another favourite done exceptionally well, I went for the classic option of fish and chips. My Hand Beer Battered Cod (£12) was cooked to perfection; the fish was fresh and crumbled to the touch, whilst the homemade batter was crisp and light. Served with triple cooked chips and minted pea puree, it was absolutely delicious and everything I would expect for a luxury take on my old fav of fish and chips.

My guest couldn’t wait to try out the Grill Menu and so went for the 7oz British Fillet Beef. This steak costs £22 and is served with triple cooked smoked sea salt chips, asparagus, grilled tomato, mushroom and a choice of a range of sauces. The restaurant cooked the steak to his liking at Medium and it was exactly as he liked. Honestly, I could TELL he was enjoying this from the look on his face and he reassured me it was just as delicious as he anticipated. He told me it’s one of the best steaks he has ever had and definitely a special treat.

With happy and full tummies, we were offered to take a tour of the Genting Casino Manchester to take a little break before our desserts. I was quite surprised at how large the casino actually is; there’s a number of different floors, bars and function rooms which are really hidden from the outside. Considering it’s such a central location in Manchester, you would never guess how big it is from the outside. I particularly loved the champagne wall above the bar; it screams luxury!

As part of our night out, we were even given a mini lesson in how to play roulette. Having never really gambled before (or been in a casino for that matter) it was really informative and the staff were so wonderful at making the game relatable and easy to understand. No question was too stupid (trust me, I asked a lot) and we were welcome to play with chips that didn’t equal real money, so there was no risk. It made me consider that coming to a casino with a few friends for a drink or two would actually be pretty fun.

Speaking of which, Genting Casino Manchester actually has a couple of rooms dedicated to meetings, functions and parties. One of the funnest areas they have are the kareoke booths behind the main bar, which are available to hire for an hour or two, or all night, complete with a private waiter to provide all the drinks you need. One of my favourite rooms is the private casino on the upper floor; decorated in silver mirrors and white leather, it feels very James Bond and is available for free use by ‘high flyers’ or simply to hire as a party venue. I could imagine this being perfect for 21st or 30th Birthday parties.

After our tour of the casino and being introduced to so many friendly Genting staff (and even some regular customers!) it was time to put the cherry on top of the cake (almost literally) with dessert. We asked our lovely waitress what she recommended and having said they we simply must try Fahrenheit’s modern take on retro desserts of apple pie and chocolate pudding, we eagerly agreed. We decided to share our desserts (best of both worlds, eh) and I concede that both the Apple Tart Crumble and Chocolate Orange Fondant are delicious. The Apple Tart (£5) is served with Vanilla and Bay Crème Anglaise and presented beautifully, whilst the Chocolate Orange Fondant (£6) absolutely melts in the middle and is completed with a Generous Kick of Cointreau and Clotted Cream. It’s making me hungry now just thinking about it…

Before now I would never even think about going into a Casino for a night out, let alone a meal, however  Fahrenheit at Genting Club Manchester has proved to me that Casinos aren’t all about serious gamblers and making money. You can pretty much make of them what they will, and whilst they might be that for the majority, you are perfectly welcome to enjoy them just the way you like. I am already planning to go back with friends for a casual drink at the bar, a learn-to-play experience with my friends before settling
