Tips For Making the Most Of Your Spare Room

If you have a spare room in your house, that’s great, however it can soon become a place to just dump all those things you don’t know where to put. If it doesn’t have a purpose, it will end up just being a pointless room that isn’t utilised to its full potential. A spare room is one of the best things to have as it is a room filled with potential – you just need to decide how best to tap into it. Here we explore some of the top ways that you can make the most of your spare room.

Think of a purpose

One of the first things you need to think about when you are deciding on a spare room is to think of what you want to use it for. Do you have people to stay a lot? If so, would a guest room be best? Be sure to check out some new beds that you can visit online to kit the room out. Or perhaps you have a hobby such as painting, so this room could be used for that? If you only have people around once in a while to stay, there’s no point making it solely a bedroom, so why not make it versatile? You could have it as an office or craft room with a sofa bed. This way you can use it all the time, while people can also stay.

Be smart with storage

A spare room is also a fantastic place to store your items in that you don’t want cluttering up the rest of your home, but you don’t want it to be a mess. To help combat this, make sure that you are smart with storage. You can invest in things such as the Ikea cube storage units that are very handy and versatile. You could also get a wardrobe, bookcase or invest in an ottoman bed where you can store things such as clothes, shoes or books underneath.

Keep the decorating neutral

Spare rooms might change their functions more regularly than other rooms so you don’t want to have to keep decorating them. After all, it might go from an office with a desk and filing cabinets, to a nursery with a cot and highchair, to a guest bedroom in the space of a few years. By keeping your decor neutral you can easily switch it around, adding and taking away different accessories in order to make it best suited for the use at the time.

These are just a few top tips for making the most of your spare room. By following these, you will soon find that that room that was before somewhere to place all the items you don’t know what to do with, will become something functional and a lovely space to spend time in. Have you recently done up your spare room? Or changed its purpose? If so, what did you do to improve it? Let us know in the comments below, we’d love to hear from you.
