Meeting with VOGUE: VOGUE’s Fashion Night Out 2013 in Manchester

Hey kittens, are you ready for some very exciting Friday night news? Today I’m bringing you some news which I’ve been bursting to let out for a few weeks now and something that I first blogged about way back in April and I’m not lucky enough to be creating a blog series out of. In fact, I’ve had quite a few of y’all ask if I know anything and it’s been a hard time trying to keep hush hush about this, but guess what? It’s time…

Time to tell y’all that a couple of weeks ago I had a very exciting invitation to afternoon tea with undoubtedly the biggest fashion name in the world – VOGUE. Yep, VOGUE. VOGUE VOGUE VOGUE. Strike a pose!

Okay, I’m getting carried away now, but a few weeks ago Sarah, Claire, Gwen and I were invited to meet with two lovely members of VOGUE’s press team to talk about the best kept secret in Manchester. We met at Teacup on a far from average Tuesday afternoon and chowed down on the tastiest fashion gossip this side of town. In fact, I could tell you how yummy our afternoon teas were, but instead I’m gonna tell y’all a little more about the biggest fashion event to hit Manchester in like, ever.

On Thursday 10th October 2013, VOGUE’s Fashion’s Night Out will move to Manchester for the first time in history. Yep, as you may recall from my first blog post back in April, our beloved North West city is going to be home to the only Fashion Night Out taking place outside of London – and it’s about time too, I reckon. Since 2009, VOGUE has partnered with hundreds of designers and retailers in London to celebrate fashion every September, in an effort to boost retailers amidst the turbulent economic climate. Last year, in addition to events happening in London and across the US, Fashion’s Night Out was held in 25 cities across the globe; Paris, Rome, Milan to name a few. And now, Manchester.

As y’all know, I’m a keen supporter of the Manchester fashion industry and local brands. For previous stories, check out my articles on ManchesterFashion Week and Manchester’s fashion history to name a few! Most recently I wrote about Manchester graduate, Amy Davidson, winning the Mulberry Accessories Award at Graduate Fashion Week (go girl!) so today’s article is one for the history books…

Last year’s Vogue Fashion Night Out in London

It’s about bloomin’ time that VOGUE will pay tribute to Manchester’s spirit of enterprise and imagination, marking the contribution that the modern city’s shopping environment makes to the lives of its residents – some of the most fashion conscious in the country if I do say so myself! Often cited as the world’s first industrialised city, the history of British fashion has deep roots in Manchester with the city’s unplanned urbanisation a catalyst of its booming 19th century textile trade. For more, check out my older blog post here.

So kittens, Fashion’s Night Out Manchester will see VOGUE partner with designers and retailers in the city to create the most exciting shopping experience of the year, as Alexandra Shulman and the Editors of VOGUE descend on the city. Manchester heavyweights Selfridges and Harvey Nichols (who y’all know I love to feature on here) have already confirmed their participation in the event, with the heart of the night’s events located in the city’s landmark Exchange Square. As well as shops, other outlets will be taking part, including galleries, restaurants and museums that will also be opening their doors in celebration. Oooh, sounds exciting, eh?

Right kittens, what do you think of Vogue’s move to Manchester? Leave me a comment below and let me know! And don’t forget to follow me on Twitter, like my Facebook page and subscribe to my Youtube channel to keep up to date with all things fashion!
