Does A Gift Really Say “I Love You”?

It can be very difficult thing to get right, regardless of how long you’ve known someone. A special occasion means getting a gift that means everything. But ultimately, it has to communicate to them that you love them. But, does a gift ever really say those three immortal words? Or is there something more to it? When you’re looking to get something for a loved one’s birthday, or a special occasion, is it all about material goods?

Does Putting More Money Into It Mean You’ve Put More Thought Into It?

Not all of us have money to spare, and so, if we spent time saving up for something that we know they want, this is very likely going to communicate to them that we do care, because we’ve made financial sacrifices. But on the other hand, if you have money to burn, isn’t it so easy to just get them what they want at any opportunity?

The Little Gifts That Mean A Lot

When we buy something for a special occasion, we can struggle. After all, we don’t always know what to buy someone, but we want them to know that they are loved and that we are thinking of them. When it comes to buying gifts for a parent, there are sites you can get inspiration from, like Gifts for Mum, and we can find these little trinkets that we may not necessarily of thought of before. It’s important that when we’re trying to get the right gift for someone we care about, it may not necessarily be what we thought about in the first place. And if we ask them what they want, does this mean that we aren’t putting as much thought into it?

Getting Inspired

When we go on these sites that may provide us with inspiration, it’s important for us to use these ideas to springboard us into another direction. While there may be a little bit of jewellery that they’ve wanted, perhaps having this as part of a care package, especially if they’ve been going through a bad time, could mean that they have a gift that isn’t just what they want, but can provide them with a few little moments of pleasure. Things like a bubble bath, personalised photos, or just a bit of time to themselves our little things that can show them other people are thinking of them. And when it comes to gifts, does it necessarily have to be about the present itself? If you want to tell someone that you love them, give them the gift of your time. Giving them the gift of your time, especially if you’ve not had much opportunity to be together recently can be a very simple, but effective gift. And this is something that we should never underestimate. It’s not necessarily about the presents. But when we’re trying to tell someone that we love them, it can come from a place of well-meaning.

Does a gift really say “I love you?” Of course, it does. But, it may not be in the way that we originally thought. When you’re trying to tell someone that you love them, it’s not necessarily about buying them what they want, although this is our instinct. Instead, think about the gift as being something they want, but also giving them something that they need, but didn’t realise.
