Frizz Control Hair Products for Curly Hair

Hey kittens, today’s blog is a highly requested one, both on my blog and my YouTube channel after I posted one of my first ever videos about top haircare tips for curly hair. As y’all know, I have super curly hair. SUPER curly hair. And it’s something which I have loved and loathed my entire life.

It can be pretty hard work to keep all of this *motions all over my general head area* under control and frizz free, and with most products it’s been trial and error. Disclaimer: I’m no hairdresser, I have no real ‘passion’ for haircare and I’m not very experimental with my ‘dos, but below are my top products for taming my curly ‘fro.

The first item I have to mention is this Argan and Rosemary Organic Oil Treatment hair mask*  costing £13.99 from new independent company, Old Wives Tail. Y’all know I’m a big fan of independents, but I was even more so drawn to this product when I found out that their site donates proceeds to stop animal testing. Bonus! They include all vegan and organic ingredients which I find really important when choosing beauty products.

Vitamin E enriched, this hair mask is targeted specifically for curly hair, including ingredients such as pure organic argan oil and shea butter is used to smooth and strengthen frizzy hair. The instructions say to leave this on for one hour on damp hair, or overnight. Now, I gotta admit I can’t be doing with overnight hair masks – instead, I popped this on whilst I was in the bath and had a long relaxing soak. When I washed it off, the formula was super thick and soaked into my hair (I can only guess it was doing it’s job?) and I had to wash it off about three times.  I am pretty sure I used the correct amount, but it took about half the jar (the sizes are 100ml, which is stated on the website to be fair, but I expected the pot to be bigger as it looks quite large on the pictures), which I am a bit gutted about as I would like to try it again! However, all until my next hair wash, my hair smelt amazing and herbally – like a tradtional-type spa.

In contrast to the handmade tub of Old Wive’s Tail, this next product, SKIMDO Original*, is like a salon product. It’s a larger 250ml tub (the only size’/type of product they do) and is a lot pricier at £45. It doesn’t contain any Parabens, Sulphates or Formaldehyde but promises frizz free hair for 7 days. I’m not sure if it quite lives up to 7 days frizz-free, but I do notice a difference when I use this – my curls are a lot more defined and sleek. However, be careful not to use too much product in case it weighs your hair down. The smell is lovely and ‘fresh’ and I really like the way packaging used, especially with the pump which is really easy to use when washing your hair.

Next up is an old favourite of mine. Twisted Sista is brand I stumbled on about 10 years ago (cringin’ hell) at Home Bargains – a discount brand store selling mostly unknown items – and haven’t looked back. I’ve tried the shampoo, conditioner, serum and spray from this range and have liked all of them. It’s cheap as chips – this little bottle of Twisted Sista Different Strokes Serum cost me a mere 99p – and you can’t really go wrong with it. I always go back to this, always. It’s not groundbreaking but it’s fail safe and it works.

Back in the middle on the pricing range, this Redken Curvaceous Full Swirl Cream Serum* (that I found tucked away from a Manchester Fashion Week 2013 blogger’s box) is a pretty average price at £12.60. Considering the amount of product and pump activator to regular usage amounts, this works out at great value for money compared to Old Wive’s Tail (although I do appreciate that product is for occasional use, and Redken’s cream serum is for every wash). I apply this product after washing my hair and drying with a towel, whilst it’s still damp, and run through the ends of my hair. It’s pretty lightweight (which is nice, as I don’t like to weigh my hair down) and I really like the packaging of this too.

Finally, my last item is the Neal and Wolf Harmony Intensive Care Treatment*, a deep conditioning treatment, containing an average 200ml amount. This is specially formulated to repair damaged hair and recommends leaving in wet hair for 3 – 5 minutes before rinsing, although I usually leave it for about 10 minutes to let it fully sink in. At £13.50 it might seem pricey for a conditioner, but this stuff is incredible. It smells AMAZING. I would literally use this when washing my hair every single time if I could afford it, and I would love love love a perfume made out of this scent. It’s a deep, herbally, spa smell that is highly relaxing and just feels so luxurious. I have also tried the Ritual Daily Conditioner and Silk Smoothing Blow-Dry Balm from Neal and Wolf, and all have the same incredible smell. I have only now discovered they do a Relaxing candle – if this smells anything like their beautiful hair products, I am pretty sure this will be my next home-ware purchase…

So kittens, I hope this was helpful in recommending some new and not widely known frizz taming products to y’all. If you have any curly hair tips for me, please do leave them in a comment down below as I would LOVE to hear them!
