Nica Press Day: Autumn Winter 2015

Hey kittens! Hope you’re all having a lovely week so far? Today’s blog post is one that I’ve been dying to share with y’all for a while now, but I just had to get some other immediate news out of the way (ahem, MCRFW!). Anyway, as we’re all thinking about getting out SS14 wardrobe sorted, this blog post is gonna get you thinking back towards Autumn – but not last Autumn, all the way forward to Autumn/Winter 2015. Oooh, and I’m looking forward to it!

Deep leather colours of Nica’s collection

The other week I was lucky enough to be invited along to Nica’s Autumn/Winter 2015 press day. Now, we don’t all love looking forward to colder times that much, but when there’s handbags on offer, I’m happy enough to think about the chilliest, rainiest times possible. Plus, as a huge fan of Nica anyway – remember my travel bag post before my trip to Rome last summer? – I was excited to preview what would be on offer 6 months ahead of the shops. So, with camera in hand, I jumped on the first Virgin train from Manchester to London and headed over to the Westbury hotel in Mayfair.

Mature floral prints
Aside from the fact that I was pretty proud of myself for making it across London on my own without getting lost (and in record time!), I was so delighted to be welcomed to the Westbury. It is honestly the most luxurious hotel I have ever experienced – think, suited man in top hat opening doors for you posh – and definitely a fitting setting for a gorgeous handbag brand such as Nica. Upon the event, I met the lovely Samantha who works for the brand, plus, Nica, head designer herself!

With head designer, Nica herself!
I felt so lucky to be able to be shown around the AW15 collection of Nica accessories by Nica herself, who told me she had just flown in from China especially. Talking me through the collection, I was told how she liked to be inspired by things other than current trends, which is definitely reflected in the items – I always feel that Nica has such gorgeous, alternative designs that are quirky with an unusual take, and I was not disappointed. Next seasons main inspirations come from woodland creatures, with a lot of owl and fox emblems inspired by a traditional poem Nica read about a fox. There were also some unusual floral prints, including some art deco tulip prints, as well as a large range of different coloured leather offerings.

My favourite of the collection was the Lauren handbag – a medium size retro hangbag, almost in a triangular shape that reminded me of a retro doctor’s bag. In love! I must get my paws on that when it’s released later on this year! I also pretty much loved the whole collection; Nica creates designs which I feel are quirky yet sophisticated, the perfect middle ground for ladies in their 20’s such as myself, who want a handbag a little different to the norm without being too out there.

My favourite bag: The Lauren

Aside from getting the chance to preview a never before seen collection, I also loved the chance to interview Nica myself and meet the head designer from a brand I admire in person. It was an amazing opportunity! I also appeared on camera with Nica in a TV interview and joined in on their Twitter Q&A which took place on the same day. Very exciting! Thanks so much to Nica, Samantha and the rest of the team for having me; I just hope I can join you for next Spring/Summer, too!
