Mary Katrantzou Visits Manchester

Hey kittens! Hope you’re all having a good week back to work/college/uni (not school, I know y’all cheeky cats are off this week) after our long weekend. It’s always nice to have a bit of extra time off, isn’t it? But it always seems to go so quickly, especially when I find myself having so much exciting stuff to blog about!

Today I’m updating you with more Manchester based fashion news – oooh, exciting! As a proud Mancunian lass, y’all know I like to keep you in the loop, which is why I thought it pretty important that I let you know about a cheeky little visit our British city had a few days ago…

Last week, international fashion designer Mary Katrantzou visited Selfridges Exchange (that’s in Manchester city centre, for all y’all kittens further afield) this week to enjoy a evening dedicated to her work. This is just another example of Manchester fast becoming a UK fashion capital – check out my blog posts on Vogue Fashion Night Out, Manchester Fashion Week and Manchester’s fashion history for more gossip on that.

Lucky customers were invited to an intimate Q&A session with the Greek designer – imagine all the things you could ask her – and invited to talk to the glamour puss about all her purrrfect fashion designs. Hopefully (paws crossed!) I will get chance to speak with Mary in the future and ask her my own nosey questions, but I’d have loved to have ask Maz what inspires her designs. Of her signature look, Mary said ““A hyperrealist aesthetic, bold graphics and industrial jewellery” – phew, what a mouthful.

However, what I’m most jealous of if the exclusive fashion show Mary held, giving y’all a little sneak peek into her well awaited A/W collection, where she showcased a handful of stunning show stoppers all featuring beautiful landscape designs. I absolutely adore Mary’s bravey to use graphic prints and repeat patterns together, creating hugely unique designs yet still keeping a feminine silhouette. A kitten after my own heart, she clearly loves to stand out whilst keeping ladylike, by clashing prints and using bright colours – love it!

Unfortunately, the garments are a little pricey for my budget but I’ve been looking into alternative brands that incorporate graphic prints into designs and I’ve found a couple of amazing budget friendly alternatives. Keep your kitty cat eyes peeled for an Outfit of the Day coming very soon featuring an amazing graphic floral print shirt, that could easily pass for a Katrantzou design. Glamorous.com – I’m looking at you.

So kittens, are you a fan of Mary’s work? Or is it too bold for ya? Leave me a comment below and let me know! And don’t forget to follow me on Twitterlike my Facebook page and subscribe to my Youtube channel to keep up to date with all things fashion!

Love Mary Katrantzou's bold graphical/trompe l'oeil prints, and the concepts behind her designs. I've watched one of her talks online, she is such an inspirational designer! Do you know if this particular talk will be available online?

Hi Shaz, I've just had a little look for you and I can't find anything at the moment, but I'll contact Selfridges now and ask.

I'll be sure to let you know if it will be available soon xx
